The biggest domino in the class of 2015 has fallen to the biggest name in college football. On Monday, the No. 1 quarterback in the class of 2015, Ricky Town, committed to Nick Saban and Alabama. Town hails from Ventura (Calif.) St. Bonaventure and is currently ranked by 247Sports as the No. 1 quarterback in the nation and the No. 3 prospect overall.
Town becomes Alabama's 5th commitment in the 2015 class.
Town’s father Rick Town confirmed the commitment on Monday morning.
“The thing is that you’re at the pinnacle,” Town Sr. said. “He’s got all the offers he’s seeking. But it wasn’t as good of a fit as Alabama. He’s seen all the top schools. He feels like he really fits into the system really well and he really liked the environment and he feels like he can go in and play.”
Alabama had been considered a favorite for Town for some time and the five-star’s recruitment had been handled primarily by quarterbacks coach Doug Nussmeier.
“It’s an honor to think of Ricky being a part of a program like that as a dad and as a family, you think about it happening but when it happens it’s amazing.”
Town has already visited Alabama along with Texas, Georgia, USC and Stanford. Despite tentative plans to make several visits during the season this fall, Town decided to end the process early.
“There’s a lot of programs that really caused him to pause but this is something that we’ve been talking about and really serious about over the last three or four days,” said Town’s father. “He woke up this morning and said ‘let’s go’.
“He’s excited to play in the SEC, excited to play for Coach (Nick) Saban and Coach Nussmeier. He really liked Nussmeier a lot. He said ‘dad, they got 90,000 at their spring game’ you can’t beat that.”
With his commitment, Town becomes the fifth verbal pledge for the class of 2015 for Alabama and the third five-star as rated by the industry-generated 247Composite ranking.
