A monster fourth quarter against A&M propelled Cooper back to the top spot.
Each week during the 2012 season, BOL highlights five freshmen -- either redshirt or true -- who are making strong contributions for the Crimson Tide. Here are the top five following Alabama's 29-24 loss to Texas A&M:
1.] WR Amari Cooper (last week: 2)
Texas A&M: Rebounded from shutout at LSU by catching six passes for 136 yards and a touchdown. Had two catches of 50 yards or more in the fourth quarter. Picked up offensive player of the game honors from the UA coaching staff.
Season to date: Appeared in all ten games, making a team-high 38 receptions for 608 yards and six touchdowns. Has caught 33 passes over the last six games. Hauled in 535 yards worth of passes during that span. Two-time 247sports National Freshman of the Week selection.
2.] RB TJ Yeldon (1)
Texas A&M: Limited to 29 yards on 10 carries, his second-lowest total of the season. Fourth-quarter fumble ended potential scoring drive and led to A&M score that proved to be the game winner. Lone touchdown was his seventh in last five games.
Season to date: Rushed for 754 yards in ten games, surpassing freshman numbers for Mark Ingram (728 yards in 2008) and Trent Richardson (751 yards in 2009). Player of the week honors from the UA coaching staff following win over Mississippi State. Offensive player of the game honors from CBS for his efforts against LSU.
3.] JLB Denzel Devall (4)
Texas A&M: Recorded an assisted tackle of Johnny Manziel in the fourth quarter. Displayed instincts and poise while working against the dynamic quarterback in the open field.
Season to date: Appeared in every game, posting 12 total tackles, including three for loss, two sacks and one fumble recovery. Defensive player of the week honors from the UA coaching staff after posting two sacks against Mississippi State.
4.] DE DJ Pettway (3)
Texas A&M: Saw action in UA's short yardage package, but didn't record a tackle.
Season to date: Appeared in all ten games. Of his seven tackles, three have come behind the line of scrimmage. Also has 1.5 sacks.
5.] WR/KR Cyrus Jones (5)
Texas A&M: Returned two kickoffs for 35 yards. Replaced on punt returns by Christion Jones.
Season to date: Appeared in eight games. Two receptions for 39 yards, with a long catch of 35 yards against Arkansas. Special teams player of the week honors from the UA coaching staff following win over Tennessee.
5.] S Landon Collins (5)
Texas A&M: Saw action on kick coverage and return units. Didn't scratch statistically.
Season to date: Appeared in each of the first ten game games, recording eight total tackles, a punt block and a fumble recovery. One of three special teamers to earn player of the week honors from the UA coaching staff for their play against Missouri.
