Things are hitting the homestretch for the nation's top uncommitted prospect, Auburn (Ala.) outside linebacker, Rashaan Evans. The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder will have his final two in-home visits on Saturday with Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart and Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn both attending Evans' grandfather's 80th birthday party.
Kirby Smart and Gus Malzahn will both visit with Rashaan Evans this weekend.
At one point, Smart was scheduled to see Evans on Friday, but the visit was moved back.
"(Smart) decided to wait until tomorrow," said Rashaan's father, Alan Evans.
Will Smart and Malzahn be at the party at the same time?
"That we don't know. We haven't figured that part out yet. They may butt heads- I don't know," laughed the elder Evans. "My understanding is there's not a particular time. I just know that both of them are coming and will be a part of the festivities. How long they'll stay, I don't know.
"They may just come, spend some time with Rashaan, shake a few hands, and then leave. I know they're both planning on making an appearance. It will probably go late into tomorrow night. There's no telling when the party will end. The party is a late-type party."
On Thursday, Evans and his father attended the Alabama-Auburn basketball game in Auburn.
"It was good- the basketball game was great. (Malzahn) kind of got the crowd all riled up and it was a good atmosphere. We enjoyed it."
Evans also had his final in-home visit with the UCLA staff on Thursday with Bruins defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, who delivered the final in-person pitch to the five-star.
"It went great. Our final visit with him went good. We had an opportunity to spend some good time with him and map out his plan for Rashaan. He feels like Rashaan can come in and pretty much start as a freshman. He said they have an opportunity for him to become a freshman All-American like Myles Jack. He compared (Rashaan) to Myles Jack and how they'd use him on offense as well as a wide receiver/wildcat quarterback. It kind of made intriguing for Rashaan and probably made his decision a little tougher."
Evans plans to announce his decision on National Signing Day at Auburn High School.
"It'll be at the high school. They normally have it at the Auburn High School gym. They'll set up at the school and start the signing day festivities. Rashaan's teammates will sign as well with their respective schools. It starts at 10 (AM), so I'm thinking he'll make his decision betwee 10 and 11 o'clock."
Evans ranks as the no. 11 overall prospect and no. 1 outside linebacker in the Top247. He also checks in at no. 15 overall in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.
As a senior, Evans tallied 77 tackles, 43 tackles for loss, and 17.5 sacks, helping Auburn reach the Class 6A state finals.
