Alabama landed a big commitment moments ago with five-star outside linebacker Rashaan Evans announcing his intentions to sign with the Crimson Tide on national television. The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder announced the decision at Auburn High School and chose the Tide over Auburn and UCLA.
"I will be attending the University of Alabama," said Evans. "With all of the schools, it really wasn't a bad decision for me. All of them are great schools and I really just had to pick the best school for me.
"Really, I just felt that Alabama was a great school for me. Not only just football-wise, but I also felt that I could pursue my academic career. I felt that they could do all of those things for me and not just football."
Evans becomes the 6th 247Sports Composite 5-star prospect to commit to the Crimson Tide in the 2014 cycle. He joins fellow five-star Marlon Humphrey in giving the Crimson Tide the top two prospects from the state of Alabama.
The Auburn (Ala.) native was recruited by Tide defensive coordinator Kirby Smart. He took an official visit to Tuscaloosa on January 17 and followed that with a trip to Auburn on January 24.
As a senior, Evans helped guide Auburn High to a Class 6A state championship appearance, racking up 77 tackles, 43 tackles for loss, 17.5 sacks, and 5 PBUs.
Evans ranks as the no. 11 overall prospect and no. 1 outside linebacker. He checks in at no. 15 overall in the 247Sports Composite.
