Foster commits to Alabama

Alabama has landed the top inside linebacker in the nation with Auburn (Ala.) linebacker Reuben Foster announcing his intentions to sign with the Crimson Tide just moments ago on Fox Sports South’s New College Football Show: Next Class 2013.

Reuben Foster recommitted to Alabama earlier on Monday night.

The 6-foot-1, 240-pounder has been the center of one of the craziest recruiting battles in memory and chose the Crimson Tide over a final group that included Georgia and Auburn.

“Well, you know I have to do it for family, and love my family, especially this little one right here. I will be attending the University of Alabama,” Foster said.

“I’ve been loving Alabama since I was a pup, man. I was raised as an Alabama fan from my mom and my dad. I was just raised as an Alabama fan. (I decided) on my way up here.”

Alabama and head coach Nick Saban's pedigree for producing NFL draft picks played a significant role in Foster's decision.

“I’m so blessed just to know that they can put me at that next level just to take care of my little girl and my family. Everybody says Coach Saban is uptight- but I mean he’s not uptight, he’s just trying to get the job done. At the camp you don’t want to see him- he’s got all these faces. That’s tough love. Behind the other side, the side other than football, it’s love and care.”

The five-star prospect, who was recruited to Alabama by defensive coordinator Kirby Smart, originally committed to the Crimson Tide during the summer before his junior season and at the time was the third commitment in the Tide’s class of 2013.

Over the next year, Foster would become the center of numerous rumors that were only fueled by multiple unofficial visits to both Georgia and Auburn. Alabama fans’ worst fears about Foster’s commitment were realized when he flipped his commitment to in-state rival Auburn after transferring from Troup County in La Grange (Ga.) to nearby Auburn high school the summer before his senior year.

Foster most recently made news on Saturday when he prematurely left his official visit to Auburn and surfaced in Alabama only a few hours later, throwing yet another curveball in his recruitment, with his announcement just two days away.

With Alabama, they’ve been on me since I was a pup, since my ninth grade year. I’ve loved them since day one. I grew up raised an Alabama fan. I love Alabama and all of a sudden it just switched over," Foster said of his prior decommitment from the Tide.

"I thought I was too young to commit, so I decommit(ed) and found something new- and it was Auburn. Coach Trooper (Taylor) showed me something new, because I fell in love with him. It’s not all about emotion. It’s all about business now. This is a business decision. I was mad, upset because he left. I loved him over there. It’s a business decision.

As a senior at Auburn High, the Under Armour All-American totaled 80 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, and six sacks. He carried the ball 55 times for 411 yards and 16 touchdowns on offense.

Foster, who has a grade of 99 from 247 sports, is the no. 15 ranked prospect overall and is the no. 1 prospect in the state of Alabama. He also checks in at no. 6 overall in the industry generated 247Composite.
