TRips: Three opposing DEs for 2012

Right tackle D.J. Fluker will see some familiar faces in 2012.

Ranking the top three opposing defensive ends on Alabama's 2012 schedule:

1.] Sam Montgomery, LSU
2011 season: Racked up 49 tackles, including 13.5 for loss as a redshirt sophomore. Led the Tigers in sacks with nine. First-team All-America and All-SEC selection in addition to being a Hendricks Award finalist.
Why he's on the list: Unlike some ends, who excel only as pass rushers, Montgomery isn't a situational player. Posted career-high six total tackles to go along with two sacks in the Tigers' first meeting with Alabama in 2011. After going against Barrett Jones twice a season ago, Montgomery will likely matchup with Cyrus Kouandjio in 2012.
Did you know?: After starting the first five games of his redshirt freshman campaign, Montgomery missed the 2010 Alabama game with a knee injury.

2.] Corey Lemonier, Auburn
2011 season: First team All-SEC selection by league coaches after leading the Tigers in sacks (9.5), tackles for loss (13.5), quarterback hurries (15) and forced fumbles (five) as a true sophomore.
Why he's on the list: Turned in one of the few highlights for the Tigers in their 42-14 loss to Alabama last November, forcing a fumble by Crimson Tide quarterback A.J. McCarron, which was recovered for a touchdown by defensive tackle Kenneth Carter.
Did you know?: Lemonier is currently projected as the No. 4 defensive end prospect for the 2014 NFL Draft by nfldraftscout.com.

3.] Barkevious Mingo, LSU
2011 season: As a redshirt sophomore, Mingo led the Tigers in tackles for loss with 15. Posted a career-high five quarterback hurries in LSU's SEC Championship Game win over Georgia and finished the season with a team-leading 11 pressures. Second-team All-SEC selection by league media.
Why he's on the list?: After serving in a situational role the past two seasons, Mingo projects as a starter at left end in 2012. That means a continuation of the battle we saw between the junior and Alabama right tackle D.J. Fluker in 2011. An edge rusher whose speed and wingspan cause problems for opposing pass protectors, Mingo was recently honored with the Jimmy Taylor Award, which annually goes to LSU's top overall performer in spring drills. Had seven tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and a quarterback hurry in two games against UA a season ago. Tallied four tackles and two pass breakups in LSU's 24-21 win over Alabama in 2010.
Did you know?: In an online competition, Mingo was voted name of the year in 2009 by nameoftheyear.blogspot.com

Next three: Tenarius Wright (rSr.), Arkansas; Nosa Eguae (rJr.), Auburn; Chris Smith (Jr.), Arkansas.
