Kief becomes the 12th commitment in Alabama's 2014 class.
Alabama has landed its second commitment of the weekend with Cincinnati (Ohio) LaSalle wide receiver Derek Kief committing to the Crimson Tide via his Twitter account moments ago. The 6-foot-5, 197-pounder selected the Crimson Tide over finalists Ohio State and Kentucky.
Kief becomes Alabama’s 12th commitment in the class of 2014 and the second in the last two days, joining five-star quarterback David Cornwell. He was recruited to Alabama by Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier and wide receivers coach Billy Napier.
The commitment comes approximately two weeks after Kief and several family members made a multi-day visit to Alabama. The four-star wideout also previously visited Alabama on the weekend of March 23.
Kief’s pledge gives Alabama 12 commitments from 8 states, as he becomes the first commitment from Ohio in Alabama’s 2014 haul. He also becomes Alabama’s first wide receiver commitment.
The Queen City standout checks in at no. 134 overall in the Top247 and no. 5 prospect in the state of Ohio. As a junior at LaSalle, he hauled in 65 catches for 907 yards and 9 touchdowns playing in the hypercompetitive Greater Catholic League.
