Who said we had to "trim down"?

Saban doesn't process players. Players process players.
If you scroll down the roster, there's plenty of guys who are nothing but cheerleaders for the most part during games. However, they work their tail off on the practice field. They keep their scholarship because they do the right things. The only conditions I've seen where a player has left:
1.) Graduated but still had 1 year to play
2.) Off-field issues; i.e. general thuggery
3.) Bad grades, tardiness, sloth = suspension; failure to get reinstated after 2 semesters of generally being lazy

Unless someone who knows tells me otherwise, I doubt Shinn is being shown the door since he would likely have been in the starting rotation as a Senior ala Brandon Gibson. Philip Sims was a different family matter but I sure as heck would want to be a starter for Bama 1-year than a 2 year starter for UVA if I wanted to have a shot at the NFL.
