*** Live basketball thread, Alabama at Auburn

  • Normally we play great defense and play really hard, but we've always sucked on offense. We need a big man that can score and a pure shooter that can hit 3's with consistency.

We seem to do better on offense when we're getting out and running. We need to get the ball out of the net quicker and try to convert in transition. We blow in a half court setting.

Bama was called for 21 fouls, Auburn 10. It's hard to overcome that kind of difference.

Auburn took the ball to the hoop all night long in their half court offense, even in the first half when they missed a lot of point blank shots at the rim. We ever once in a while took the ball aggressively to the rack. The aggressive offensive team in the half court offense will always get the benefit of the foul calls, whether you are on the road or at home.

Our offensive style was the main reason for the foul disparity.

  • You should be able to score that many in a half shooting from half court. Pathetic excuse for basketball.

  • The Florida Special Olympics team that I saw compete at the National Games a few years ago in Nebraska would beat us. I honestly mean that.

Great thing we didn't hire Mike Anderson. Great thing.

That's cute and all, but Grant has beaten Anderson basically every time he has played him, correct?

I'm not saying Grant's the answer, but Anderson took an amazing class and up until last night had turned them into a sh*t sandwich.

But yeah - that doesn't address the issue with Grant. He has no clue how to cause a team or individual to improve offensively.

We allowed less than 50 points, including a half where we allowed THIRTEEN. AND LOST. The laws of physics say that isn't possible, and yet I saw it.

When Grant is gone after next season Anderson will still be at Arkansas building a winner. The man knows how to coach. At least Anderson's team has a clue who they are and what they are trying to accomplish. Grant's team does not. Anderson is clearly the better coach.

The Arkansas fans hate Anderson. I've kept up with them throughout the year. He was roasted harder than Grant is being roasted on here right now after they lost to us a couple weeks ago.

He's not "building a winner" any more than Grant is. Arky has the same overall record we do and is a game worse in the league by virtue of losing to us. They also lost by 18 to A&M and by 21 to South Carolina, who are both dreadful as well.

I'm not saying Grant is any better, and in reality Anderson is probably a better coach overall. But I'm not going to wax poetic about some guy Grant has taken to school two or three times in a row. He's not significantly better than any other coach in the league right now.

Anderson is better, and I have faith Anderson will get Arkansas where they all want to go because the man has done it elsewhere. When I watch CAG I lose heart. We show....well, nothing. Anderson is building a winner he just needs time. CAG needs to go to coaching 101 clinics because he looks clueless.

Not gonna go back and forth, but we said this same thing about Grant. Arkansas hasn't been an elite program since Nolan Richardson was there, and even his last few years sucked.

Stan Heath and John Pelphrey were both hot commodities when Arky hired them, and both got canned because they couldn't get it done. Anderson isn't significantly better than either one, and we can easily say he'll build a winner but they haven't made marked improvement in his second season. If anything, BJ Young and a couple of their other guys have gotten worse this year.

Anderson is just as likely to flame out in a couple of years as he is to succeed, because Arky is no longer a marquee program. They're a middle of the road SEC team, and nothing in the last 10 years has proved otherwise. We are a better program than they are right now, and we're abysmal.

But ultimately, as I said in another thread, there's no easy fix because there's no guarantee Mal will hire someone better than Grant. We aren't getting any of the 'hot' mid-major guys, and there's no proof a big-name assistant would do any differently than Grant. Either get serious and cut someone a $3mill check or go after Pearl in a couple years. Drastic times call for drastic measures if this isn't turned around soon. Get serious or board the place up.
