Filled some needs. Wanted explosive players on offense and feel good about it.
Losing a lot of defensive players. Have some here, but felt it important to do well there too. Feel good about the players we landed. Have a great specialist with the kicker and how me might contribute in the future.

Recruiting is not an exact science and no one knows for sure how these players will develop - it's the usual line he gives every year.
We pride ourselves on the type of program we have, helping people in their lives beyond football. Had 38 players this past year make SEC honor roll, which Saban believes is an all-time record.

Collins is an outstanding player, has been at our camps, has leadership capabilities. Very bright young man who has a bright future. We want to bring him along at his own pace.

SEC rule on 25 signings.
We signed 26, we had a midyear opening that one of the guys went back and counted that way. I think it's going to be an NCAA rule. It was tougher management, trying to hit the number and not go over.
Negative response to grayshirting - he resents the way some coaches are playing that card.
We took some opportunities away from guys who wanted to be here who we couldn't sign, we couldn't offer. I don't see how that's good for the league.

Dixon and Belue - pleased to get both of them. With Menzie graduating and Kirkpatrick leaving early, we had to assess if we had starters. We only recruit junior-college players if we have a need.
We're excited about he ability they have and how they may contribute. Gives us a little more experience and maturity at that position.
Follow-up question on Collins about his mom - we have good relationships with the people around him. I hope everyone can be supporting of him. He wants the best for the players just like the parents do.

Multi-year scholarships: When I was in college, many moons ago, you go four-year scholarships, and there were lawsuits galore from releasing players after they got in trouble.
Again, I think it's some people's cynical approach that coaches don't have the players' best interests in mind.
Saban doesn't comment on if Alabama offered any.

Early signing period: I think we have to be careful about that, especially before the high school season because it could affect their senior seasons.
