I’m at the Alabama Sports Writers Association conference today and Phil Savage addressed us for a few minutes. Some interesting things:
- Despite taking over as the director of the Senior Bowl he will still do Crimson Tide broadcasts.
- Said Nick Saban begged the NFL to let Dont’a Hightower participate in last year’s Senior Bowl. There is some discussion about letting juniors who have graduated and been on campus for four years participate in the future, but the NFL is reluctant to open that door.
- This year the Senior Bowl will have a watch list for potential invitees. Organizers also hope to have a selection show.
- The Senior Bowl is looking for a title sponsor.

Savage is a smart,smart man and knows a lot of inside NFL folks...I think he has great potential to turn the game into something significant.
