Just got back from dinner and had a few thoughts on the Jameis Winston situation after reading the boards.
First, if Winston chooses FSU over Alabama. Please don't take shots at Winston or FSU. Let's be above that as a message board community. By all accounts, Winston is a great kid and very well grounded and will do what he thinks is best. And by all accounts, FSU has recruited Winston above board and by the rules. There's no reason to take shots at either and we will try to delete posts that target either. Just something to think about if he chooses the Seminoles over Alabama.
Secondly, you win some and you lose some and sometimes the situation and circumstances have a lot to do with it. If MLB wasn't a threat for Winston, Alabama would have made him a single priority and had this wrapped up a long time ago, but because there has been such a MLB risk, along with the fact that Alabama needs an elite QB, the Tide staff decided to place a high priority on Gunner Kiel "and" Jameis Winston. The Tide ended up getting as close as you can get to landing Kiel without actually landing him -- sometimes that's just the way things fall. Going into this process, the Alabama staff had three quarterbacks as takes. Who knows how it all plays out, but this is just part of the game. No need for a where do they go from here mentality!
And finally, Bama fans and followers should NOT mix perception with reality. Just because the Tide (could) lose Kiel and Winston, everything else is pointing to one of the best classes in recent years. Guys like Eddie Williams, Kenyan Drake, Reggie Ragland and Dillon Lee are huge early gets -- plus others. And the Tide is in great shape with a collection of national top 100 and top 25 players. It is important when following recruiting to measure the year from a cumulative perspective and not just the emotion of the day, based on the most recent pick a hat on national tv event. The bottom line is that as of right now, the only negative with this class is the qb position, otherwise the Tide is recruiting at the highest level at every position. Let the chips fall and in the end and Im willing to bet this class is going to be a dang good one.
Have a great Friday night. Im about to watch a few episodes of Criminal Minds with my kids and girlfriend and celebrate a great, great week at 247Sports.
