*** Statement from Pettway's attorney

  • From D.J. Pettway’s attorney Jay Stuck:

While certainly disappointed in the University's decision announced earlier
today, DJ wishes to convey his sincerest gratitude to everyone who has
provided him assistance, guidance, and well wishes throughout this process.
He wishes to express particular gratitude to his family and friends that
have and continue to provide unwavering support.

Although his journey at Alabama is over for now, DJ is excited about the
opportunities that may present themselves as he moves forward with his
    studies and personal growth.

DJ would like to convey to his teammates his sincerest disappointment in not
being able to join them on the field as they prepare for the upcoming
season. He also wants both his teammates and his coaches to know that he
considers them all extended family members and that due to their friendship
and support his time at Alabama has been the best of his life. He truly
regrets any pain, distractions, or other problems that this incident has
    caused any of them.

DJ is committed to putting this incident behind him and to proving to all of
those fans, coaches, and teammates that were disappointed by this incident
that it is not a reflection of the man he is. He has already learned a
great deal from these issues and is eager to begin the long road of proving
to his family, friends, coaches, teammates, and the fans of the University
of Alabama that he is worthy of the trust and faith they placed in him.

Due to the ongoing nature of the proceedings surrounding this incident,
neither DJ nor his family will be commenting publicly. DJ hopes the media
will respect this decision that was made on the advice of counsel. As this
matter proceeds, DJ eagerly awaits his opportunity to present his side of
    the story.

  • Good attorney. Someone wrote that for him/them well, covering all angles.

Saying that, I do wish the kid the best and hope he gets his life back on track. Most of us fall, some fall again, how do you get up and carry on will matter most in the end.

  • So, is he going to try to straighten himself up and, depending on what comes of this, try to come back to Bama? I don't see it happening, but that statement sounds to me like he thinks he has a chance.

  • Did I miss the apology to the guys that were beat and robbed? Although he didn't do it he was a part of the whole mess. The statement was intended for only the teammates coaches and fans? Wow. Jus sayin.

Ongoing Trial. Even though he might love to have an apology in there, unfortunately, he can't Would be used against him as some type of admitting guilt shrug Crazy we can't say what we might truly want to while your case/trial might be pending.

To apologize would admit guilt. Prob can't do it, even if he wanted to.

I totally understand the legality in what you said. But in that regard, that would leave me to believe that he would plead not guilty. He had better admit guilt and take the deal that will be awarded to him whatever it is. Me personally, I think its very crappy that the apology would only center around the football program. Why have a statement/apology at all if its not around the one(s) affected? Dont get me wrong, I totally get your point. Its accurate in its legal sense. But it doesn't do it for me the fan to get any apology because he didn't do anything to me, the fan. I agree with your shrug 100%

  • "Disappointed in the university's decision" - seriously? What was he expecting?

As for admitting guilt, last I heard, all the guys involved had confessed. Kind of hard to defend with a confession on record.

And I get that, but to apologize publicly to anyone besides them is a back slap move IYAM. Also, admitting guilt would be the smartest move he could make anyways. But I 100% get the logic of "admitting guilt" is not what the attorney wants to show right now. He's playing the bleeding heart card and I understand why. Its what they do, they are fully representing their client. But they aren't fooling anyone, are they? I wish him luck in his future.

  • Whole thing just ticks me off! Pettway as a chance to become a millionaire and he goes out a does something this stupid. Say what you will...hope he makes a comeback, Learns from mistakes, finds somewhere to continue his studies and football. Everyone deserves a 2nd chance and I'm certainly on board for that but will I root for him and his gang of thugs.....No.

The kid did not admit guilt. The public does not know what is taking place behind the scene. Plenty of people are speculating though, because its natural to butt one's nose where it doesn't belong. The system is in place and will adjudicate each person according to facts and the application of the law and the relationships of those involved in the process.

The University of Alabama has a process and today was the culmination of part of that process. As a citizen, fan, alumnus and letterman, I hope that each of these young men learn their lesson and grow from this situation.

As Coach Saban stated: "Some people learn by words. Some people learn by consequences. Some people can’t learn.”

I, for one, hope and pray that they become better people and productive citizens, irrespective of their football contributions. I hope that the victims heal from this situation and continue to grow as humans too. rolltideroll
