*** Tony Mitchell suspended indefinitely

  • People who are expecting the team to regress initially might be in for a surprise. Lots of times action like this taken by a coach actually lights a fire under a team instead and they end up playing over their heads.

Thanks for the heads up guys...I assumed it must have been something off the court. I think we really all saw this coming, but for me the UK game at the end was really when we had something concrete to go on. I was really hoping that sitting to start the Ole Miss game was enough and he gave really good effort when playing. Kids gotta learn to control his temper and just play hard all the time or he won't even end up playing overseas.

I really liked the move when TM was hit in the cheek by an Ole Miss player. He lays face down on the edge of the court like he had been shot in the face with a pistol. I know it hurt, but the dramaqueen antics doesn't set a good example for the younger players.

  • Very unfortunate for such a talented young man, but very necessary as well. I hope he gets his act together because he could have a bright future ahead.

  • Most times, I'd shudder to think about what would happen if we lost someone with his production. Like him or not, he's one of the leading scorers and rebounders on this team. But with the way he's been poor-footing around lately, I doubt we see much drop-off immediately. Just means more minutes for Gueye and maybe even Engstrom, especially if Green gets in any kind of foul trouble. Green and Jacobs better be ready to lace it up. Steele's return is big because he can play the 3 if we need him there.

I'll share what I know will be an unpopular opinion, but it's one man's opinion nonetheless. Is anyone else a little worried that we're almost 3 years into CAG's tenure and we still have players who haven't bought in? We had this same thing happen last year with Green. It's alarming to me that we're still having to suspend players because our coaches aren't getting through to them. Just a thought....but at some point, if you keep doing this, players are going to stop being impacted by it. It's like screaming and raising holy hell after every loss. If you do it every night, eventually people start tuning it out.

You hit the nail on the head. This a**hole has brought this down all year and I'm excited to see what the team does without him breathing their air.

It would be more disconcerting if Grant had signed either of those guys.

  • I forget...was he the one who showed his @ss on national TV, yelling at the bench to move down because he wanted to sit at the end after he got yanked from the game?

    Will he take the grayshirt?

It's just one of those wierd sports nuances, but in basketball it's called a "greyshirt"......biggrin

A fair point, but I've heard we have attitude problems at other spots on this team with younger guys. And sometimes it's completely evident.

Whether that's always been their mentality or learned behavior from the upperclassmen is anyone's guess.

Ultimately, though, being bothered by losing shouldn't still be an issue to overcome for a majority of the team 3 years into a program. And right now, there are only about 4 players on the team who seem to consistently give a da*n whether or not we win. Unfortunately, in some cases (not all) those players who play hard aren't our most gifted contributors from an athletic standpoint.

The bottom 20 percent appears to be dragging the top 80 percent along, kicking and screaming, at times.

Yes he was. It even embarrassed me while I was in my own living room.
