Lake has Marcel Dareus potential, great build and explosive power. He is still very raw at this point, but a year of great coaching and strength training and the sky is the limit for this guy.

Reminds me of Anthony Bryant (who's still in the NFL by the way).

  • Commissioner Slive has taken the stage and we're about to get under way here. It's a who's who of journalists, with 1000-plus credentialed for this year.

No...maybe situational, but not #2. Kids potential is as big as anyone we have ever signed though...great, great attitude and very humble.

  • The main ballroom at the Wynfrey is jammed packed.

During Slive's 10 years, the SEC has won 62 national championship in 16 different sports, and the annual revenue distributed has tripled.

“We need to be creative, innovative and continue to think outside of the box.”

SEC still in favor of increasing the value of a full scholarship to better meet rising cost of living expenses.

Calls for legislating what's important, like allowing text messaging, and not things like cream cheese.

"We must be ever vigilant on all issues of integrity." Added that one person can't be allowed to take the soul of an institution.

  • Listening to Slive--anyone have the specifics of how academic eligibility requirements will change in 2016? I wonder how much this will impact our recruiting. To me, that makes the firm 25 cap even more challenging if the eligibility requirements will make it more difficult to get in. If I remember correctly, now its a sliding scale of GPA and ACT/SAT scores. Anyone know if it will still be sliding scale or how the requirements will change? I know our staff tries to target guys that typically do not have grades issues, but we all know many of these recruits are not the best students coming out of high school.

  • “There’s no other media event like this,” Slive said.

Referring to QB Garcia. Yeah, he's in rare form (and when he's in a good mood here it means he knows he has a good team).

  • Spurrier in the main ballroom, at the podium ...

"I've been 20 years, some of you have been 30-40 years. I guess they don't fire media."

Ok, probably not the best place to say that, but this should be a good session ...

  • This is the first time at South Carolina that Spurrier has brought a quarterback to SEC Media Days.

Connor Shaw is the son of a football coach - Is a running and passing QB, might be a little better runner than passer.

Gamecocks were a run-oriented team last year. Will do whatever it takes to win.

A lot of experience at linebacker, all seniors. Might have two of the best DEs in the conference.
