Boz, I miss the old Bama baseball back in your era when Bama ripped the cover off the ball. Putting up 15+ hits, 10-12 runs and 2 or 3 homers a game was the norm. Now, it seems the norm is 4 or 5 hits, 2 or 3 runs (at most) a game and about 1 homerun every 4 or 5 games. There is something to be said for good pitching and defense but I like my college baseball with lots of scoring. Do you think it has more to do with the bats nowadays or is Bama just seriously lacking in hitters?

Those were good days. We used to call pre game the intimidator to the opposing pitcher as the majority of us could hit lasers in the gap or some tape measure bombs. That said the bat is a factor, but I stood behind the cage and watched there BP a year ago and was shocked at the lack of pop off the bat. Even if the sweet spot is smaller, its just more like a wood with smaller room for error but plenty of lasers are being hit by other teams. I haven't seen the physical builds of the recent teams but my years there were some stout guys even the shorter ones (myself) that were strong and powerful. Yea the game has changed but so much that the majority of the team is slap or single guys.
The JOE used to be rocking and its an atmosphere that I'm sure the current kids haven't seen

Yeah, I used to be a season ticket holder. I remember watching Bama take BP before a game back in the late 90's. It was home run derby. One guy (Roberto Vaz I think) hit like 7 homers in a row and just about every single guy that took BP was jacking them out of the park. You definitely didn't want to park your vehicle between the left field fence and the Law School back in those days. And you're right, the Joe was one of, if the THE best college park in the country for a few years there with Superfan and the big crowds. It is a shame to see how far Bama baseball has fallen.
