There is a pulse. Alabama chips away with a single run in the 5th on a Kenny Roberts RBI single. 8-1 Southern Miss going to the bottom of the 5th.

Zykstra in to pitch for Alabama carrying a 20.25 ERA. Leadoff hitters in an inning batting .500 against Zylstra on the season so look alive out there.

On cue, Zylstra greeted rudely with a double and an RBI single to start the inning. Now 9-1 Southern Miss. Fans getting a rare glimpse at a 27.00 ERA on the scoreboard for Mr. Zylstra.

Zylstra gives way to Brandt Hendricks, but not before he allows a walk to leave them at first and second with one out. If Hendricks could strand those runners, Zylstra's ERA would dip to 21.6.
Gaspard obviously did not want to leave Zylstra in there to face the righty, as right handed batters are hitting .500 against him this year. And walking him to face the lefty did not appear to be an option given that left-handed hitters also hold a .667 average against him on the season.

Three more batters and three more hits against Hendricks. Now 11-1 and the sacks are full for the Golden Eagles with one out. Assistant coach Dax Norris loosening in the bullpen.

Hendricks allowing Zylstra's two runners to score balloons that ERA up to 32.4. He now has a shot at the record though -- no pitcher wearing the #33 for Alabama has ever had an ERA eclipse their jersey number.

Lol. Sad, but funny. Hendricks is trying to give Zylstra some competition for the highest ERA with a 27.0 himself.

Hendricks puts out the fire in the 5th inning after the Golden Eagles add 3 more runs (a half dozen altogether in the inning). We move to the 6th inning with Southern Miss holding a two Touchdowns to 1 lead over Alabama.

In the interest of keeping Southern Miss' batting practice session moving along, Alabama cooperates with a 1-2-3 inning on seven pitches. To the bottom of the 6th we go, Southern Miss driving and up 14-1.

Alabama brings in Chazz Otwell to pitch. Chazz is an infielder by trade but his bio notes he pitched a total of 4 innings for Wallace State a season ago. As Otwell is warming up, Gaspard petitioning the umpiring crew to place an L Screen in front of the mound. Will try to get you an update on that when we get a decision from the crew chief.

Also give a call out to the Southern Miss coaching staff for pinch-hitting for their .370 hitter last inning with a guy who had two at-bats on the season. Pretty good display of sportsmanship and player safety with that move.

Alabama slightly delays playing of the baseball classic "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" after sending four men to the plate in the top of the 7th. Ruled to be an inadvertent mistake though as Alabama hitter had walked on a full count.
