I reflect back to the week we launched 247Sports and all the excitement that surrounded our company’s entry into the digital college sports and recruiting space.
I was extremely apprehensive about pitching our startup to the sports media world. Whenever someone asked, my general response was … “we have 3 years of hell in front of us, so let’s keep things on the down low until we have something to shout about.”
Still, there was so much enthusiasm surrounding 247Sports. It didn’t take a 20-year media veteran to acknowledge that our industry was at an inflection point and publishers and users were extremely dissatisfied with the lack of innovation and customer service that had unfortunately become the accepted norm. For the first time in 15 years – our industry was no longer growing its member base.
Whether it was blind ambition, ignorance or the sheer passion of our staff, we rolled up our sleeves and started building the infrastructure and core tenets of 247Sports.
As many know, this isn’t our first rodeo. We have 15+ years experience and are very proud of what we built at Rivals.com and the company we left for Yahoo! to manage. However, we knew that Rivals was only the tip of the iceberg of what we could accomplish with the right team and plan in place.
As we celebrate our two-year anniversary of 247Sports I have never been more excited about the future of our company and potential to build something special for sports fans around the world.
Everyday I celebrate the opportunity to work with an incredibly talented, competitive and loyal staff.
Guys like J.C. Shurburtt, Tony Morrell and Gerry Hamilton that took the chance and signed with us before we even launched … Ronnie Sanders that helped recruit many of the key partner sites in our first few months … Bobby Burton for signing on and forgoing other lucrative opportunities … Tim Watts for bringing over BamaOnLine, the largest college team site at the time … Lee Schear for bringing over the behemoth known as Bucknuts and his continued support as a key partner in the company ... Riley Bryant for building a technology platform well beyond anything I was capable of dreaming up and so many others over the past two years.
However, I would especially like to express my appreciation to 247Sports COO, Noah Stanley. Noah has been the backbone of the company and has served in every role possible during our startup. Noah’s insight and vision for 247Sports has been a vital resource for our entire staff, but his sheer competitive spirit has been a driving force behind our growth.
While it is important to take a step back, reflect and celebrate the past two years, it is all about moving forward. We've said it over and over, but we are just getting started and haven't scratched the surface of the product we are building. We have a tremendous passion for this business and will continue to work hard to give you guys the very best information, products and customer service in this industry.
Again, thank you to everyone that has supported 247Sports over the past two years. Your support means so much to us and is the driving force behind everything we do. Thank you!

Thanks for giving us junkies a place to get our fix.
"Character" is doing the right thing when nobody is looking.
Lucky...It is a great destination...I would know in that I come to this destination about 6 times a day.....clear up one question for me...How do you personally say the name? 24-7 Sports or 247 Sports

New Member of The 247 Crew!
congrats Lucky. I have a question was it harder the first time when you started rivals or this time with 247 I know experience is a valuable thing to have when starting a business of any kind. one more( ? ) Is it really necessary to have auburn site on 247 (G)
I used to have access to a friends account at the old site. I was waiting on Lucky's new service (247sports) before spending the money. I knew it would be worth it. I was correct. Thanks for the work you guys do.
That was a cool night when the great BOL Exodus occured, it almost felt like NSD staying up late and everybody flooding over to 247, very cool.
Many thanks to you and your staff for building 247 Sports to what it is today, love me some BOL!
Congrats Lucky! Y'all keep bringin' the goods!
I just want to say how I appreciate you and the whole BOL 247 team. This site would be great just staying as it was when it was with rivals. It didnt stay the same though. It has done nothing but get better from week to week and day to day. Look at how the BOL team has grown. I cant wait to see what the future holds with this site. I am very very proud of my membership to 247 sports and BOL.
Congrats and thanks for the greatest cfb site ever! Hope the rewards have been worth all the risk you and others took to open 247. Best of luck in the years to come as Bama wins multiple NCs to add to its past and present glory!
