A BB guestion; when CAG was hired, did he not say he

  • would have a very up tempo offense and push it up the floor? We have traditionally had fast, lean, 6'-7" or 6'-8" speedy leapers. Would we not be better off turning them lose and letting them force the action?

Yet we are ranked in the bottom 10% in pace of play statistics

I truly believe that's the system he wants to run but for whatever reason he has not recruited the right players to run it.
We have too few players to run it for an entire game, much less an entire season. Truly need to be able to substitute fresh legs and go 10+ deep when needed.
Plus our bigs are slow and unathletic. Engstrom is the best fit sadly.
Put some of Gottfrieds rosters with a coach truly commuted to that style and holy cow what fun...

  • Sometimes I think Mark Gottfreid had a buyout clause that the incoming coach had to run MG offense. It is amazing the similarities between the pace of play under CMG and CAG. Very little difference at all. Dribble and pass the ball around until the shot clock gets down to 10 and then let someone create a poor shot or at least a low-percentage shot.

At least Geuye and Jacobs aren't the ones launching 20 footers like Davidson used to do.

I really don't think Grant puts a lot of thought into how a recruited kid fits into an offensive system. He just gets the highest rated guy that will play for him, whether they will play and complement the other players and if they fit into his system or not. Well except for center where he wants the tallest guy possible regardless of athletic or basketball skills.

  • Yeah I get the impression his recruiting system involves pulling up a recruiting website to see who is nearby and highly rated.

People might not realize this, but we have SEVEN guys on the team who were top 100 overall players on TOS (247 didn't go back far enough). WAY too much talent to be so lost as a team.

Of course part of the problem is other than that 7, we only have 3 project internationals and 3 empty spots.

This is what people don't take into consideration when speaking of Grant. The players he has signed were highly thought of players. Not for their defensive skills, but for their offensive skills. You don't make the Top 100 players as a guard if you average 6pts/game, 2 assists, & 9 steals.
