  • Have you heard these individuals may be in the mix, or are these coaches you would like to be considered?

I'd be curious about having Joe Lombardi on our staff. Seems like a young guy (with great bloodlines) who has the kinda work ethic Saban likes, has experience working with a successful NFL franchise, has coached one of the best QB's in the NFL game, and has been intelligent enough to be a coordinator on both sides of the ball in college.

  • Lombardi would be great. He is definitely my top choice. I live in NOLA and from what I've been told he is an extremely hard worker with a complete understanding of the game. I think that he would be a great fit. The only thing is that he has an extremely bright future in the NFL if that is where he wants to be. I think he would relate great to college age kids and be a wonderful recruiter.

Gregg Napp and Kelly Skipper would also be great. Skipper has a bunch of good college experience on the west coast in Pac-10 programs. I would like to see someone like Napp but I think he is more of an NFL guy, but we'll see.

Lombardi's the grandson of Vince, right?

  • Now this is the kind of names we need to be looking at. People with proven OC experience. I can't emphasize this enough, Alabama IS NOT a training ground for an unproven, untested OC. Let them go cut their teeth at Memphis. We need a big-time OC that can match the intensity of our defense.
From what I know, I don't want anyone from our current staff. This needs to be an outside hire.

Yes he is. He is 39 years old and an extremely hard worker that has actually worked extensively in on both sides of the ball in college and the NFL. Check out his bio. I started another thread about him.

Bio of Joe Lombardi - Saints QB Coach

This would be my top choice for OC. He is young(39), energetic, and from what I have been told, has an amazing work ethic. His experience

  • When is the last time we brought in a CURRENT NFL coach to be on our staff? Anyone? TIA. Every time there is an opening on college staffs, the fanbase starts throwing around NFL names and it rarely happens.

Sal Sunseri. I believe he came straight from the Carolina Panthers.

I believe Saban is likely to go the NFL coach route, especially considering that by the time that Bama finishes the season and he really gets to hiring someone, the NFL will just have finished its regular season. Most of the college hiring will have taken place by then. Lots of NFL coaches will move around at this point.
