  • A guy on College Football Live just ranked AJ as the 3rd best QB in the counrty. That's some respect right there. RTR

Wasn;t it Skip bayless saying that he would never play for the Big ten or big 12

  • Think its a little high but gotta love the props he's getting.

Still think Barkley, Wilson, Murray, Landry Jones, and Geno Smith are better at this point in time. That being said, AJ has the potential to be better than most of those guys if not all of them. We'll see if he explodes this year or if he makes some minor improvements and hits a wall like McElroy seemed to.

i think geno just gets exposure because of the style of offense he plays in. not sure he has as much pro potential as aj and i wouldnt trade for him.

L.Jones wasn't even in his top 5. Said he disappears in big games. No argument there from me. Barkley and Geno Smith #1 and #2. Denard Robinson #4, Aarron Murray #5.

McElroy was leaps and bounds better in his second year than his first year. If AJ makes the same type of improvement, he'll be a superstar this year.

  • Wow, let that be a statement to all HS recruits. Playing for Bama and for CNS on these powerhouse teams that we have get you a lot of publicity and what many would consider to be the "Saban Boost." AJ is a great example of this. He's our QB and fits what we want to do from that position pretty well, and certainly has the potential to be as good as he wants to be, but being called the #3 QB in the country has a good deal to do with playing for CNS AND on the powerhouse that IS currently Bama football, pure and simple.

I think he can grow into that if he keeps working on his game, but I'm not quite sure he's #3 in the country just yet. Him saying that is a huge compliment to our program. The message is loud and clear to recruits... if you want to play for titles, play for a great coaching staff that will prepare you well, and play in the NFL after being drafted in the first round, then come to Bama. Just ask Julio, Ingram, Dareus, Carpenter, McClain, Kareem Jackson, Smith, Trent Richardson, Barron, Hightower, Kirkpatrick, Upshaw, and now apparently AJ. Nice.

    Who is Geno Smith?

  • I can see why people are thinking this. I have never been as high on Murray as many have. I have seen him make too many huge mistakes with the game on the line. Also, how many games has UGA won that they were not supposed to in his two seasons? I don't think they have one game that can be considered an upset victory.

Geno Smith is a legit Pro prospect. Big arm. I think AJ is better than Murray and Jones right now. Systems dictate numbers sometimes so it can't be all about the numbers. Right now as a pro I'd go Barkley then everyone else. Smith has most upside probably among the rest but I'd take AJ over any of them right now outside Barkley.

I do like Skip overall, but I totally disregard his comments about anything to do with SEC football. He is too blinded by his love for the Big 12 and Oklahoma. I like him because he will speak his opinion, regardless of what other people think.

Agreed....Hell Gmac had a 400 yard game against AU right? But overall our commitment to running will keep the stats down for most QBs. I'm not sure what wall Gmac hit? I think we got the most out of his abilities at UA.

Oh. Well, I wouldn't consider a West Virginia QB for this discussion no matter how good you think he is.

Midway through the 2009 season, McElroy had stopped producing, gone into a shell and dropped from Heisman talk to a real liability for the offense. Many expected him to be benched and for AJ's redshirt to be blown. He finished strong but there were several (4 or 5 straight) games where McElroy just looked like the wrong man for the job.

not sure were the heisman talk statement came from, but yes he had a slump that year, honestly i think that slump is why Mark won the heisman. he carried the offense on his shoulders for 5 games. especially that south carolina game.

GMac's wall was from a lack of elite ability. He was a good QB. A serviceable SEC QB. He wasn't great, but in the second year he was good enough to win. In 2009, he was a liability, in 2010, he was good enough to be an asset at times. AJ has elite ability once he puts it all together. There really is no comparison between GMac in his first year as a starter and AJ in his first. AJ was never at any point a liability to our offense like GMac was in the 2009 South Carolina game.

I'm sure of that. Going into that South Carolina game, GMac was being mentioned regularly in the Heisman conversations.

Greg was never a Heisman candidate at any point, but the rest of the statement is absolutely true.

You are going to have to show me something where he was mentioned as a Heisman candidate. I believe you are mistaken.

Candidate? Maybe not, but he was being mentioned every single time ESPN discussed the Heisman going into the South Carolina game. There was a two week stretch where the talking heads were loving him.
