Alabama commit K Adam Griffith in action

  • Went up to film him yesterday. He missed one from 45 and that was it. The rest were good on the first try.

The 50 yard FG was good from 70, I really feel like. He kicked a 69 yd FG in practice last year. He will go for the state record of 63 at some point in the playoffs I am told. His school scores so many points he rarely has a shot at kicking one in the regular season. Has a 50 yd FG already though for the season.

  • Thanks for the update, Rusty. Man, he really gets a lot of height on those kicks. Amazing how high the flight was on the kicks even from 50+ yards.

Lebron James will never be as good as Michael Jordan, thus we should get rid of his nickname, "The King".

On all but the first one, yes

  • Aren't the field goals themselves narrower in college? Meaning that the 60-yarder would've been wide left?

Been real close for sure. Kid a deadly from 55 in. He is 5-foot-9 at best and I was told yesterday he can dunk a volleyball on 10ft goal. So you can see the explosion he has. Great, Great, Great young man. Just goes about his business and does his job when called on.

They would come in about 2.5 feet on each side, so it may have been good, or it may have hit the upright. I don't think it would have been wide left.

Yeah, his accuracy was pretty obvious considering he was drilling most of those kicks dead center. And we ain't talkin' extra point range, either.

  • He should be the acknowledged starter as soon as he signs his LOI. And he isn't the typical "message board inflated" kicker, either. I am not trying to publically knock anyone, but if this kid gets on campus and regresses, it will speak VOLUMES about our special team coach's capability. Hell, just tell Adam to "go out and do your thing" every day at practice and don't screw with anything he's learned up to this point!

Edit: Most telling thing about that video - Adam was disappointed with the ball that was good, yet didn't split the uprights. That's championship-winning mentality!!!

  • I hope he can make the transition, for whatever reason, the 100,000 people in the stadium, etc. we seem to not get the same results that were experienced in high school from many kickers over the years.

As much pressure as he could face on the high school level last year in the Georgia Dome to send the state championship game to OT with :03 secs left Griffith drilled a 45 yarder. It was crushed too.

  • I'm assuming he can bomb kickoffs as well?

  • Sounds good to me, then bring him on.

    We're due!

I gotta be careful with this, I will lose some serious street cred talking kickers all night.biggrin

But yes he kills kickoffs mostly out of the endzone. Does not punt much though that I have seen.

I can say that Calhoun doesn't punt much at all. Adam can punt in the high 30s low 40s avg. He grew up playing soccer but when his family moved him to the area he took up football. Good kid and a perfectionist at heart. He is clutch and consistent. As mentioned, he hit a game tying FG at the end of regulation in the state finals. He has not missed a FG in the GA Dome, which are the same that the SECC uses.

Anyone looking to correlate him to Cade Foster just need to really watch the two videos and read the 2 scouting reports to know this guy is much further along.

  • All I can say is I told you so. I posted my thoughts about Adam the other day based on what I know of the kid from living in the same town and conversations I've had with some local coaches. This kid is as close to the real deal as you can get. I can't wait to get him on campus.

  • he's gonna have a tough time beating out foster

  • Very impressive although not many kicks to view. However, most were straight down the pike or centered so the narrow college goalposts shouldn't be a problem. Height is excellent. Kicking off the ground is a huge plus because there won't be an adjustment to college level kicking. Of course, there are other factors such as wind, off center kicks, and crowd noise.

I remember well my son's admission that he was shaking like a leaf in a storm on his first game kick at Bama. But he said after that first one he blanked out the crowd noise and he was much calmer. He also said "icing" the kicker doesn't impact the kicker or at least it didn't affect him.

Can't wait to see Adam in action next year.
