Alec Morris

  • Why is he only rated a 3 star? In a very competitive leaugue, he threw for over 3,000 yards and almost 40 touchdowns. At one point, his team was ranked #2 in the country. Leading a team of that caliber, as well as putting up those stats should earn him at least 4 stars.

  • He is in a great system and will have to do some major work on his feet and mechanics. He is a project at best at UA. I think he could turn into a very good player down the road, but they usually designate high star ratings to immediate impact type of guys.

    This.

He's an average QB at best... in a system that allows him to have incredibly inflated stats.

Mcelroy put up better numbers than that at the highest caliber level in Texas and won state but he was only a 3 star. Just a lot of room to improve for Morris. He may put up good numbers but he needs some coaching. I hope our next OC is good with qb's because Morris has a high ceiling with his size and athleticism.

  • There's a million good QBs in Texas, they can't all get four stars.

  • Could be a good one.

  • i mean i understand all of that, but he has things you just cant coach. first off, his body is SEC ready, i mean the kid looks like a less fat ben roethlisburger out there, and is deceptively athletic. also, he is a exceptional leader, and has shown those qualities in leading his team to a #2 ranking in the entire country.

  • I don’t know how the rating is computed but I like how Alec will sit in the pocket and make the deep throws with a lot of accuracy.

  • Has a long way to go mechanics wise. Reminds me of jimmy barnes.

You are correct, the kid seems to have a lot of intangibles but those are hard to measure. Recruiting ranking often don't take account intangibles which is why guys like Vinnie Sunseri and Brad Smelley excel (without physical dominance) and guys like Alonzo Lawrence, Star Jackson don't succeed (with great physical attributes).

If Morris turns out to be another Greg McElroy, we should all count our blessings. Don't expect this kid to come in and be Ben Rothlisberger because that won't happen.

i wasnt saying that he will be the next BR, i just thought that he resembles him physically. i hope we get Winston, but if not, AM wont dissapoint down the road.

Agree, and didn't mean to insinuate thats what you meant. He does have a similar build.

  • I'm not very high on the guy. 3 stars seems pretty accurate to me. Gunner is a better QB imo (flame away). Hopefully we get Winston!

After Gunner and JW committed elsewhere.....just saying there is a pecking order in recruiting and this guy was certainly no where near our first option. But then again neither was McElroy.

Rivals 2014 top 25 recruits list has 10 5-star players. Do you really believe those 15 year olds could make an immediate impact? I'm not attacking, but the star rating is flawed. There is no way to justly evaluate the thousands of players around the country. I've heard from coaches they don't recruit based on stars, that is entertainment for bloggers. It does indicate who's got the buzz, but they aren't looking for kids that peak in HS, they want kids peaking on the way out. That is Morris. He will have been on campus this summer for almost 2 months before he turns 18. His size is ready, his arm is naturally powerful and he will develop. It is all good. RTR!
