I want my position on this to be perfectly clear and this is a great thread for it.

I want 16 four team mini-conferences with a 6 game regular season and a 16 team round robin tournament featuring each conference champion, that lasts for 2 months.

That sounds gay. And, yes, I'm still out of downvotes so I'm going to do the upvote thing again while informing you that my upvote represents a downvote. Please subtract 2 from your post rating or whatever it's called to see the true value.

As it turns out, I'm out of upvotes too, so you should only subtract 1 from your post rating.

As it turns out, it takes roughly 30 up or down votes to make my overall rating budge a single point. But do your best.

To be serious, I was excited about A&M coming on board, with the addition of a 14th team. Whether or not you guys like it, chances are it will happen sooner or later. Maybe not A&M, but it will.

  • I dont know about 16 teams and Slive apparently doesnt either. A lot of coaches are against the rise to 16 as well. 14 teams will come first imo. It doesnt change the dynamics of the schedule as much. The way most teams schedule their OOC games is 2 two cupcakes and 1 legit squad. With 14 teams in the conference that 1 legit D1 OOC game gets replaced by 1 legit inner conference game and you still have your 2 cupcakes and 1 middle of the road team to make you full up with 12 games scheduled. What would be the difference if A&M and Mizzo came over to make 14 and now Bama played both on a regular basis and rotated less in the East. There is no difference imo, you are trading lick for lick. With 16 teams your schedule becomes daunting and auto bowl bids would have to change. Basically what Slive would fight for is the top 2 SEC teams to auto qualify for a BCS bowl and then we could also be an at large bid in certain scenarios. If he didnt fight for that then we are walking dead and playing ourselves right out of a NC game. It would take one hell of a team to go unscathed in a 16 team conference. I think a 16 team conference brings a playoff system and I'm totally against any playoff that isnt played in a series style which is impossible in CFB. All a playoff does is award the hottest team that probably got lucky in a game or 2. Just look back at the Patriots/Giants game. If you say that the Pats were not the best team that year you are a damn fool. Sorry for that rant but 14 is were we need to go, not 16 right away.

  • "The one thing I have grown to hate is the abundance of stupid/ignorant fans we have."

You should be careful who you call "stupid/ignorant". You just had 12 SEC school presidents that voted against your opinion that TAMU is good for our conference.

  • I agree. If we knew for sure that super conferences were going to be formed and I believe this to be true, then why wouldn't we want to add the 4 best teams possible? I would want to add, Texas, Oklahoma, FSU and one of the next 3 (Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Clemson). Can you imagine the TV deal that could be struck if you had these programs added to the SEC? There would always be an SEC game the would command and demand prime time coverage.

Adding TAMU would open up recruiting in Texas for the sec, but you are wrong about them being middle of the road. This will only improve their recruiting and in time they will be big brother in Texas.

Only way TAMU is big brother in Texas is if UT gets death penalty.

Haha. I've gotta read posts closer before dismissing them. Sometimes I overlook gems like that. Glad you caught it.

Exactly the problem with his argument. There might be a few reasonable people who disagree with him, but they are wrong because they disagree with him. Meanwhile, there are no ignorant or embarrassing people who agree with him, um, because they agree with him and are thus enlightened, informed, and intelligent, notwithstanding the fact that TAMU is just another middle-of-the-road Auburn or Arkansas, not an Alabama, Florida, Oklahoma, or Texas. They're objectively smart because they're objectively right; they're objectively right because they subjectively agree with him.

That's not it at all. You clearly didn't read my post just a few above yours that I am quoting. I said this:

"I don't believe that those who disagree with me are idiots. I was saying that those who give ignorant, baseless reasons to exclude A&M are idiots (the reasons I listed in my OP). I welcome all dissenting opinions and some people on the other side actually made some solid points, although I still maintain my original position. I was simply saying that we have many unintelligent fans that make us look bad."

Also, I see the likelihood that A&M would be an Arkansas or Auburn as an advantage and a good reason to add them. Adding Texas or Oklahoma doesn't help anything because it makes the conference too much harder to win. Adding Baylor does no good because they suck. A&M is the perfect middle ground. JMO.
