For some reason your comments brought to mind the movie "1941" where the Japanese submarine is off the coast of California near "Hollywood", and the whole crew is star struck. The notion that California is the golden land, the land of milk and honey, permeates our society and while parts of California are nice, the thought that it is uniformly awesome is seriously misguided. You really don't have to walk too far from the USC campus to find yourself in a place you'd probably be a lot better off not being. I have two California cousins that now attend UA, specifically to get them away from all of that. Point is - different strokes for different folks. Color me "Ford Pickup with a Dead Deer in the Back" Crimson.

Well some people enjoy Beverly Hills and the sights of LA or NY and other enjoy going to college close to home with friends in a neat town and with people they relate with. I am more a big city diversity guy myself and would agree with you but you are not better than others who disagree or prefer things differently. Nick Saban obviously left the beaches of Miami to coach in Tuscaloosa and a lot of that is professional but I also think he is prefers a smaller / more private quiet town. He isn’t an uncultured redneck and you are not better than him because of that preference. Having lived both places I prefer New York to Tuscaloosa, but I don't think given the opportunity I would play for Rutgers instead of Alabama to be closer to the city.

Plus your entire point is incorrect in my opinion or more appropriately not at all a huge factor here. Is there a single recruit Kiffin has signed in the Southeast besides a few kids that he stole immediately from UT? He is cleaning up as the premier football institution on the West Coast and it has nothing to do with picking between Tuscaloosa/Athens and LA. He is simply continuing on the idea that USC is cooler from a football standpoint than UCLA, Cal, Oregon, ASU, etc.? It’s going to take a while for that to go away because it’s all these kids remember under Pete Carroll, USC was in the championship picture nearly every year in the 2000s. If the LA factor was a huge deal, UCLA should be cleaning up because it's a bigger and better school in the exact same city in a nicer area with a better campus.

You are 100% correct on this assessment. Some guys may be persuaded by the hollywood lifestyle while others might not. The bottom line is the school made a much better hiring decision from a recruiting standpoint than UA did under the sanctions. Their hire will not bolt because he sees it as his home. He is young and arrogant but he isn't a big enough idiot to be out drinking with co-eds. And he is intelligent and a recruiting slut.

Not to mention USC is more appealing than any school within a 1000 miles from a football tradition and resources standpoint.

Ugh yea, that has the most to do with it in my opinion. USC was the best place to get to the NFL just five years ago and kids aren't going to forget that quickly. It also was the premier offer to get west of the Mississippi river really anywhere other than Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. They didn't get squeezed out by nearbye competition when the sanctions hit like we did and they were smarter about it.

Let's wait and see how Kiffin's classes pan out before we anoint him. His UT class ended up being a disaster, and scholly sanctions only started at USC this past class. It'll be about 3-4 years before we discover if these 5* players are any better than his previous ones, and if he can recruit when sanctions are actually affecting the success of the program.
