Anyone else hope to see college NASCAR one day?

  • I think it would be cool! I enjoy Nascar. But I cant tell you it would never happen. Just a money issue

    NASCAR is a sport?...

Performance driving is a skill. Does that make it a sport? Maybe.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no NASCAR fan, but I think this would be a really good way to keep football-only fans occupied during the off season. Plus it would be really fun watching the Bama car sprinting past the barn and UT cars on the backstretch of the final lap in the SEC NASCAR Championship to earn a chance to host the NCAA NASCAR Regionals at Talledega.

No offense but just because someone is a football fan doesn't mean they're a Nascar fan.

Plus, no, I don't believe that would be a wise decision; allowing 18-22 year olds the chance to race a car that goes up to 22 MPH? Sounds like a bad risk for a college IMO.

Playing chess well is a skill too. Does that make it a sport?

  • I hate NASCAR but really enjoy road racing events (Rolex Series, Formula 1, etc.). No reason to ever have collegiate auto racing. The amateur leagues start at a very young age and many of the pros are racing on the big circuits in their late teens to early twenties.

One of the best Rolex Series drivers a couple year ago was only 16. It's a different world in racing than it is in pretty much any other event.

  • IMO a sport is an athletic activity that pits two or more individuals or teams against each other in competition where the outcome is decided objectively, usually via scoring. Sports are then broken down into two groups: direct and indirect. Direct sports are when the opposing individual or team has the ability to deter you from scoring (play defense). This would include football, baseball, basketball, soccer, tennis, wrestling, etc. Indirect sports are sports where you don't have the ability to deter your opponent, such as track and field events, swimming, golf, etc.

There's then another group that I just call "athletic events" that are a lot like sports (athletic skill, competition, etc.) but use subjective scoring rather than objective. These include diving, figure skating, snowboard/skateboard/skiing/etc. trick events, drum and bugle corps, etc.

Totally just rambled that off. Sorry guys.

Actually, after reading through the rambling I agree.
