Bama O-line + my opinion on the Stoutland situation

  • First I need to get this off my chest...Did anybody freaking out over Stoutland even read the f***ing article!? Did anybody care to look at the sidebar about him. He drove a recruit to the booster's house with his parents...Talked to the booster at team events 3-4 times... I'm no expert on violations but this is hardly what I'd call being an active part of the scheme... Chill out. For the most part seems as if he stayed out of it.

Now for the o-line part... With the defense being as solid as it is, and our 3 extremely talented running backs, I believe the o-line is the biggest key to the season. If they play well like they should several things happen. Number one our running game explodes barring injuries. The 3 backs combined should be well around 2500yards. Number two it allows our young qbs the time they need to make the throws and correct decisions. This will be their first time starting in big games under pressure, and solid o-line play will have a huge impact on the outcome. Good running game with an effective play action pass will do wonders for our QBs confidence, especially early in the season. Let them grow into their role.

If the hogs play well, the tide will be rolling.

I agree but sadly I don't think some of these people want to hear this at this time.

The fact that he drove him to this dudes house is bad enough. His guilt or innocence does not matter anyway. Perception is reality.

Whatever happens we can be assured that Saban will handle it appropriately. worst case scenario is we are looking for a couple coaches next year. This isn't something that will be resolved in a few weeks. All the hand wringing is ridiculous.

I'm sure they will handle it appropriately and there is nothing that can get us in trouble. However, why not just be done with this tomorrow morning. No hard feelings between the coaches. Just give them their check for the year and be done with it.

Because we have a game in 17 days. OL coach is kind of important to our season

  • I will let Coach NS take care of it. Whatever he decides to do about it. It did not happen at Bama. That is first and foremost. Lots of people make mistakes, learn and grow from them. I agree that the Offensive Line will be a key for us this year. Remember, Clinton did not resign even after he was IMPEACHED. HA. So relax and let CNS handle it. I live in Texas and I love Alabama Football, I was born here and I cannot stand UT. I like A&M but I cannot stand the Barn and that cow that goes in the Barn. Roll Tide.

That is a very intelligent remark - probably won't influence the bipolars but you tried.

Um, no it's not. I'm guessing you were one of the many freaking out about the TTMW story.

We're not culpable for any NCAA violations on our end unless:

    a) we knew about all of these improprieties when we hired these guys or
    b) they're found guilty of NCAA infractions and we knowingly retain them on our staff after that happens.

As someone else already pointed out, this isn't going to be settled in days. Right now, the entire story is based on the testimony of a CONVICTED FELON.

It's entirely possible that all of these allegations are true, but right now they're just allegations. This won't be resolved until the season is over. Play out the string with these guys and if they need to be let go in the offseason, then you can part ways and have time to fill the spots without mortgaging this season.

Miami isn't sitting any of the players who were supposedly involved yet, and that should tell you something. Either they know they're f**ked and just don't care, or they realize right now there's nothing they can do but wait. The burden of proof is on the NCAA until they decide to send a letter of inquiry to Miami. Until then, ride it out.

I'm fairly certain if all of this is true these two coaches won't be part of our program next year, but let due process play out and don't make any rash decisions.

Disclaimer: I wouldn't be surprised if Saban let these guys go immediately if they admit to doing all of this, but if he retains them it's no reason to freak the hell out.

I'm not worried about TTMW at all and I'm not worried about this at all as far as UA is concerned. But if you don't see anything wrong with Stoutland driving a recruit to an agent/booster's house on his visit then you are blind. Especially when everyone knew who this guy was and his reputation. I know UA will not get in trouble for this situation but I don't think it's a good idea to have coaches on our staff who would make this kind of mistake.

God, I'm convinced most people on this board never played organized sports. You don't get rid of your o line coach 2 weeks before the season. Hell, Miami hasnt even suspended anyone yet that's been linked to this.

This case will take literally years for the ncaa to investigate. I'm sure if the ncaa provides any evidence to ua suggesting either coach was in the wrong they will be sent packing. Until then why create an issue where there isn't one? Some of you guys need to take a breath and think for a minute. Alabama will not get the death penalty if stoutland is on our staff this year.

  • The O-line will make or break us this year it lost us three games last year we could not run the ball with the best backs in CF. I think he will be let go if what has been reported is so . What we need to worry about is if CR knew this ten months ago why did our people not that is a very good ?.

    tideman50

  • As of right now, all this is a story told by a felon. Let's see how things play out over the next year and if needed we will hire another coach. In the meantime, let's give our coaches the benefit of the doubt. As always, Saban has a plan and he will do what is best for the program.

  • Correct me if I am wrong. There was only 1 player contact incident alleged by Shapiro against Stoutland plus a few phone calls. This event is verified by a couple of players. Because the Miami thing is so bad (salacious really) I would expect Stoutland to be fined and have some player contact sanctions but keep his job.

Because Shapiro chose to protect Pannunncio (sp?) it is not clear to me what will happen with him. He is not a coach or recruiter. Because of the speed at which the NCAA operates he may just go quietly after the season. Same could be true to Stoutland of course.
