  • I don't know nearly as much about round ball as I do about football. But I think I've figured this out. Grant is a believer in fundamentals, so he seems to believe that the inside game sets up the outside game. Much like in football, where the best teams run first and pass second. In basketball, if you can get the ball in the paint and score down low, you will win nine times out of ten. In the Georgetown game, at the end, we had done a good job at the very end of scoring in the paint. We were in contention, and Mitchell tried to make a three when he should have tried to get the ball inside to somebody. I thought that lost the game for us.

I realize that Georgetown won the game on a three pointer, but that misses the point. If Mitchell had played Grant's game, we could have won.

You may be correct. However, I think that with any good coaching staff, they teach their players to take what the defense is giving them. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to do that a lot this year. Since we have shot poorly from the outside all year, teams are trying to take away the low post game and force us to beat them where we are weakest offensively. We are going to have to hit outside shots more in order to open up the inside and create a balance in our offense.

  • If I was an opposing coach I would never come out of zone because we can't shoot our way out of it. Hopefully as the freshmen become more confident they'll start shooting better. We've seen shades of it already.

  • I think you need to have 5 guys running the offense (picks etc.), in order to make it work. If Mitchell is determined to hotdog, the offense won't work. I think that's what CAG meant by "entitled" basketball. When everyone on the team works together we're pretty good

It is tough to run picks against a zone. The defender isn't following the individual offensive player. They are rotating according to where the pass has gone. "Entitled" basketball is when a player is visibly upset and complains when he doesn't have a play called for him to score or feels he is open and doesn't get a pass. Tony was whining about those things and generally wasn't showing his teammates, coaches, trainers, etc... any respect at all. He acted like he was the "TEAM".
