Bama's D could reach 2009 levels

  • Won't copy and paste because its an isider story on ESPN, but basically talking about the fall off in production of last years young defense compared to 2009. Saying this years D has the chance to be just a good statistically, as they are probably better athletically. Talks a lot about Hightower. Most interesting is this quote:

"Dont'a is the heart of this team," says Chapman, who will be the D-line's main force with the departure of Bills' No. 3 overall pick Marcell Dareus. "He's taken over the team like no other leader I've been around."

That is a pretty strong statement, because we know what kind of leader ole number 25 was.

I think #25's fingerprints are still all over our D. He taught and served as an example to so many of our current players. Looks like Dont'a has picked up the torch as leader of the D, which is awesome to hear.

  • Also, it quotes Jordan Jefferson re the difficulty of learning to read our D. Said we do such a good job of hiding our bad intentions that he has to spend all week trying to figure it out. Added that if last year's young D was a tough read, it'll be a helluva task with a year of experience under their belts.

    Roll Freakin' Tide.

  • Our D should be pretty solid. We should be able to affect the QB and force sacks and turnovers. Our run defense should be pretty good as well. We have big guys up front and our LBs and secondary players are good at closing on the ball carrier and playing the run.
