Baseball Renovation

  • Hey guys I'm doing a speech for my advanced public speaking class on why we need a new baseball facility. I have to come up with 3 points to support my opinion. I already have the obvious that we rank about 10th in facilities in the conference, but any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • If it was built, say downtown along the water, it could be a real boost to the local economy and possibly attracted a minor-league team.

  • I loved that class at UA. One of my speeches was on metal bats in high school.

Good luck, he grades tough. He still coach forensic team?

Pretty good point given the possible future downtown could have on the local economy if all these new ideas/renovations come to fruition.

Ahh no, I think it was Thompson. The old guy with white hair. He was the forensics coach in 2008 when I took the class. Still have my speaker's handbook.

  • Anyway, 3 points for stadium renovation.

    1. Renovations will bring larger crowds and more revenue in ticket sales due to the larger crowds. You could build a clubhouse shop in the stadium to sell more merchandise creating even more revenue. A renovated stadium would draw high school tournaments as well to create more revenue.

    2. The city of Tuscaloosa will benefit in many ways, several of which Chris noted. Beautification of city, the area around the stadium will be revitalized as new businesses will want to build near the stadium, and a minor league team could play there but the only possibility would be the Stars. The only MiLB in Alabama is the Southern League. The only possible move would be Huntsville and that franchise sucks so I could see us snagging them possibly. I know UA students would frequent the games on the beer special nights.

    3. The program itself would benefit greatly. Recruiting would be more interested in playing at UA with top notch facilities. The players themselves would benefit psychologically playing in a nicer stadium. The coaches would have more at their disposal to improve their players with new technology.

Use South Carolina's new stadium in your argument and point to Kentucky's dreadful facilites as another argument to back you up.

  • Can't put a price on how fun and exciting it is to play in a top notch facility

  • Just curious but how could UA and a minor league team use it? Is this done in other places? Seems scheduling would be difficult for both practice and games.

Can someone explain, would be an awesome addition to T town

It would be a challenge, but it could be done.

The Southern League plays 5 game series and they get released well in advance of the SEC schedule being released. The Southern League finalizes the 2013 schedule during the 2012 season.

Luckily, the MiLB team wouldn't have their first home game until April. They wouldn't even practice at the new stadium until the very end of March.

It's possible because in Durham and NOLA the AAA teams were the home of Duke for 2 seasons and Tulane for 2 seasons.

If you built the stadium knowing you're sharing it with a minor league franchise, you could build it to suit that.

  • I could see that working. NCAA is half way through the season by the time minor league gets going. Like you said , spring traing til march
