Basketball: Tide aims to build on its success

There won’t be a midnight celebration, or much fanfare when the Alabama men’s basketball team opens practice Friday, but that doesn’t mean expectations aren't high:

  • The preseaon schedule is not easy. I look forward to this year.

  • I'm more excited about basketball season this year than ever before.

  • Such a great feeling to be an Alabama fan. So much more to be excited about than just football

  • I'm pumped about this season. Things really turned around last year, not just with the team, but with the fan enthusiasm as well. Coleman was a fun place to be for a lot of the games in the second half of the season, especially the NIT games. Our lack of size is definitely a concern, but if the freshman come in and play to the level everyone thinks they're capable of, it's going to be a great season. I just hope everyone remembers the end of last year and packs out Coleman for the early-season games, which have been very poorly attended in past years.

  • What are Ojomoh's measurables? Is he considered a true point or can he play the 1 and 2. Also, is Trevor Lacey more of a combo guard or will he mainly play as a 2 guard? Thanks.

Agreed! We need much bigger crowds for the non-conference schedule home games. More students need to be allowed into those games to fill any empty seats. Of course, no students are really on campus for the winter break. That is when the locals need to turn-out strong. RTR!!!

  • This reply is for Gary, I forgot to include the quote however. Ojo, is supposed to be a good shooter who can run the point as well. Is very physically mature for his age. I'm hoping he competes and beats out Eblen as the backup PG.

Lacey is a combo guard, more of a shooting guard than a point, but can run the point effectively enough to backup Releford at that position. Randolph can do that as well. CAG should be able to keep Releford fresh for the entire game this year, which he couldn't do last year. RTR!!!

  • We, as a fanbase, are going to need to be VERY patient with this VERY talented team early in the year. We have one of the toughest pre SEC schedules EVER in the history of our program, BUT we have a LOT of GREAT, Sweet 16 quality, but young, talent. Those of us who know basketball need to work with everyone to keep them encouraged, positive, and supportive of this team from day 1! There are going to be LOTS of growing pains.

BUT, late in the year, these pains will give birth to a skilled and sweet 16 caliber team, barring injury...

    Excited about Bball! RTR!

  • Lacey can light if up from outside. I like his ability too take it to the hole, a zone buster both ways.

  • We are undefeated and look amazing on the football field and I'm already excited about basketball. It feels like cheating but it feels oh so good. Bama overload. Great problems we have these days folks!

  • Alabama will be a top 3 team in the SEC and barring injuries have a legitimate shot at making it to the sweet 16 / Elie 8. Our defense will be very good and in the open floor get ready for enough ESPN top 10 plays to fill up an entire highlight reel.

  • Chris,

I'm so excited about the season, lots of upside, but I hope our guys can play horse with a defender in the face. I'm sorry but a shoot around of horse doesn't prove anything. It's a huge jump from catch and shoot from high school to JUCO much less from high school to D1.
