Bball season is now. Its fair to evaluate coach grant

I think Alabama basketball should make the tournament every year. But sometimes things dont go as you hope they will. That does not mean the coach did a bad job. Nick Saban went 10-3 with the most talented team he's had since he became Alabama's coach. You have to look at all the factors that go into things turning out the way they do each season.

But Saban didn't go 10-3 the other 4 years, he won titles.

If Grant only makes 1 tournament appearance in 5 years (including missing it with a roster full of veterans) should he get a 6th?

This brings up another concern of mine. Since we are having to play small, why do we still attempt to turn every game into a halfcourt game?

Playing small should mean that we should be trying to beat team with speed and athleticism....neither of which we really actually attempt to do.

With the players we do have, it should be up tempo to give us as many one of one chances in transition as possible.

Talked to quite a few coaches that said the exact same thing. No one understands why Grant insists that these guys slow the game down and pound it inside as if we are a threat in the half court. We actually pass up opportunities on the break to set up a non existent half court offense.

Not only does Bama have to play small, they also have to manage the pace of the game because of low scholly numbers. That falls on coach Grants shoulders. Did he mismangage the roster? Yes he did. Thats one of the things he needs to learn from. Dont be a stubborn recruiter. His roster management has to improve.

At this point we have a 9-man rotation, when Steele is healthy. Even with 8, we should be able to push the tempo more than we do.

I'd rather see us push and give out at the end than to not push it and still give out at the end. We already lose every decent lead we have in the last 10 minutes. At least we would have an excuse that way.

I agree with this and I also think we as fans have to be smart in our thinking. I understand some of you guys are frustrated as fans and you expected a much better product. Remember Mal Moore did a great job at hiring Grant because Grant was indeed the hottest name when Alabama was searching for a new coach. I do agree with most of you that in his 4th year things are well below of where my expectations were as a fan

But Alabama is not going to just fire Grant and hire some great can't miss coach. We also have to understand as fans who follow basketball that we're not going to just recruit and find offensively skilled big men. I mean most NBA teams still overpay for quality big men, so that tells me most college teams do not have one.

I think the best thing right now is patience, but Grant has to be little more aggressive in recruiting. He has to have that Nick Saban I want the best player starting and coming of the bench attitude.
