Belue has blown me away this year

  • How was this guy a 3* coming out of HS much less out of JuCo? He would start for more than half the teams in the SEC. Kid can fly and plays the ball extremely well when it's in the air. He reminds me of Kareem Jackson except plays the ball better when it's in the air.

I was able to see Belue play several games in high school and he was the most dominate player on the field by far.

Sorry to post the obvious, but he may have been a Rivals 3*, but he's long been considered a future NFL cover-corner by Saban and company. This is yet another case of the recruiting services getting it wrong.

Yeah it just blows my mind at the disconnect between evaluators and actual team evaluations. I'm sick of kids getting bumped up when they produce in a camp but they can't on the field.

Didn't he have like an 8 game steak where he took a punt to the house his Sr. year?

  • Recruiting rankings no longer concern me. Saban may be the best evaluator of talent coming from hs to college in our lifetime.

If saban wants them that is all the ranking you need to know. This is true even for people we missed on. Look at Keenan Allen, Clowney, Malcolm Mitchell, Greg Reid, etc.

  • Or has he Belown you away?

    PepaSpray

  • Does anybody know why Belue hasn't seemed to be in the mix for returning punts/kicks? Christion and Cyrus are both great, but I was under the impression that Belue was a special return man in HS and JUCO.

  • The only knock I have on Belue is him falling alseep at times. it seems like if a someone gets beat it's always him or Sunseri. Belue has tremedous upside though.

God, give me patience today. If given strength I may beat someone to death.

  • Grades may have been an issue with his ranking much like Dareus.

I think it was mostly so he could focus on picking up the defense.

Agree completely I was at the Bama ut game and it was like a thing of beauty seeing him in the receivers hip pocket all night. Yes I know he got beat once but other than that he was amazing. Plays the ball just as good as milliner and has some major hops and quick twitch muscle movements to him. If I had to bet on it I would say milliner will be a first round corner this year and belue the next. Yes he's that good and it's his first year in the system.

yeah, grades cause some players to be downgraded, as you said in Dareus' case. Im pretty sure Belue was the same scenario

pretty sure this is the case, I remember it took Belue being enrolled in January before he was added to our commitment list last year, even though he has re-committed during the season, or maybe right at the end, last year. I think it was due to the fact they weren't sure if he would qualify.

soap box moment, and slight high-jack, but one thing i have always had a small problem with is the notion that a player that is academically questionable gets downgraded due to eligibility concerns. IMO, if a player is a stud, and say a top 50 player, rank him as such. Just because he isn't as likely to make it to a university as a guy a few spots below him doesn't make him any less talented. It also leads to other players being over-ranked, even if only slightly so.

Dareus was no doubt a top 250 player, probably a top 100 player, or close to it coming out of high school. He was raw, and needed coaching, but most everybody (poster-wise) who saw his film just hoped he'd make it on campus because he was going to be a player. But he was ranked a 3* because the evaluators thought he wouldn't qualify - which kind of makes me wonder how they know this information, since isn't there some privacy issues there? In any case, it seems to me it would be more accurate that they rank him based on his ability, and let his eligibility play out however it plays out.

Belue I think suffered some from eligibility issues, but I think he was also a little more of a question mark on how his game would project on the SEC level. I think he always had the athleticism to be a player - like somebody mentioned, many thought he'd at least be an immediate option as a return guy. Just weren't as sure as how he'd play out as a DB, kind of like Javier Arenas.

Fact is there are a bunch of players to grade, the folks are gonna miss some and nail others, but it appears CNS and staff nail a lot more than they miss, and as long as he is good enough for a scholly from CNS then I'll count him as a chance at being a stud (Chance Warmack immediately comes to mind)

    Dominant

Our goal was to dominate our opponent. We achieved that goal, therefore we were dominant. Take this with a grade of saw.

  • Also he played for a lower class high school (I think Deshler is a 4A school but not sure) That can hurt a players star rating.

This is the way I see it:

Belue is a 5* player who was graded by Rivals as a 3*. You assert he would graded higher if he hadn't had grade issues.

Robert Foster is a 5* player, according to 24/7, and he has grade challenges. He appears, according to most, to be worthy of his 5* rating. Nobody seems tempted to downgrade him because of his class work.

The contrast of these two cases is stark. The inconsistency in grading suggests different standards have been applied, in my view.
