Julian Pittman, Niceville HS, FL early 90's. Kid was a 6'5" 270 DE wrecking machine, USA Today Defensive Player of the Year his senior year and #1 recruit in the nation. There was not a team in the panhandle who could stop this kid. Went to FSU where they added 30lbs to him and moved him inside on the D-Line and he never was the same...I know he was drafted by the Saints but never made the team. During my 9+ yrs of officiating HS football in FL, he was the most talented I saw. That's saying a lot since I also had the opportunity to officiate games where Derrick Brooks, Danny Wuerffel, Tommy Johnson (Bama), Willie Gosha (Barn), and a number of other HS players who went on to greater things.
Kid would have been a beast as a Jack LB in a 3-4 defense
This goes back to 1980-81. Don Horstead, Elba AL. Best High School RB I ever saw. (And I played against Siran Stacey.)
Don went down with a nasty ankle injury his senior year. Never fully recovered. Went on to play at Bama and had flashes against Penn State in the 1983 game I believe?
But never could get back to where he was at the beginning of his sr year.
Guy had it all. Could run inside or outside. Reminded me of Ricky Williams.
