Best tailgating wagon? Best tailgating satellite?

  • Looking to do more tailgating next season and was looking for the best options for these. It wont be cheap but hopefully theres options that wont break the bank.

    Thanks very much in advanced!

  • We use one of those rubber tired wagons with Collapsible sides they sell at Lowe's or Home Depot. Rolls pretty well up ramps and on the grass. It holds a lot once you learn to pack your stuff.
DirectTV dish works well and fairly easy to position on a decent base.
    I hope this helps.

    Its does - thanks.

Do you have any trouble using the dish? I assume you have the normal "bowl and stand" dish and not a self-contained one (like the VuCube)?

No trouble at all. We setup in the same place every game so we have a good idea where to point it. We started off with a flimsy homemade PVC base and just looking where our neighbors pointed theirs and did fine. Good luck!

  • Dish network now has a new dish called the tailgater, all you do to set it up is plug it up point it west and it turns and finds the satellite for you. plus its in a dome no more tripods and fears of wind knocking it over, you can see it on their website and also on you tube. hope that helps.

You can buy a regular dish on ebay or amazon and a tripod stand on ebay and probably invest a total of less than $100. I would go that route if I were you. Once you figure out how to dial it in, it's a fairly simple process.

That is very cool & it's in HD. I looked on Amazon & they are around 350.

    Now that is handy...

Yeah it looks nice but one thing to note is that a specific receiver works with the Tailgater. I'm not sure if DirectTV lets you rent them but if you buy them, they're $150 a piece.

I'm trying to see if the increase in price for the cube (Tailgater) format is worth it.

Does anyone have trouble with the tripod satellites? IE. signal, how sensitive they are to drunk people bumping into it, sensitive to weather, etc.

Thanks so much in advanced, guys!

We've never had an issue with ours getting knocked over. Normally they end up being grouped together in a general area if you are in a crowded part of campus, so people will walk around them. Just make sure you stake down (or tape down) your cords so nobody trips over them and knocks it over.

One other advantage to the tripod is that you can get the extensions to raise the dish higher if needed. This is handy if you set up around buildings or trees. I'm about 99% sure the Tailgater wouldn't work where we set up because of the low elevation.

  • Never had a problem with directTV. Just point it southwest and dial it in from there. You have to reactivate the box/satellite every so often if you don't use it all the time. I do alot of dirt bike racing out in the woods in the middle of nowhere and have never had a problem. I wan't to say my dad pays around 50 bones for the service. We''ve had it for about 4 years now and are still on the original box and satellite so they seem to last awhile.
