Out of that list, 2 guys with HOF potential.

I understand how the NFL works today but still think other than the two QB's taken before him Trent was the only viable option to make the lowly Browns instantly appreciably better .

I wasn't arguing that. I argued that the NFL IS more of a passing league now.

Hell, you've won that argument before it started.

  • I definitely agree that the NFL is more of a passing league - my personal issue with this article is: out of all the angles to take with an article about the draft of Trent at #3, you picked this one for a hometown newspaper? How about the "Trent's so awesome he went #3 in a pass-first league" angle? Birmingham News had to go look for somebody who disagreed with the pick also, since most thought it was a good move. I don't understand their reasoning for doing something like that. This would never happen in Louisiana. Even the way they have covered the Saints scandal here has been very fan-conscious - they've certainly criticized in their editorials, but in a very careful way. They'd never run something calling for the heads of the Saints players and coaches, ever, even if that's the majority opinion nationwide.

  • This article should surprise no one. We share the state with another second rate University! That we're currently starting to choke the life out of. These hit pieces will continue. Because that's really all they can do at this point. biggrin

In this specific draft TR is only a bad pick if the Browns had an equal need at a more valuable position relative to team success. However, it can also be argued since they don't have a great QB and there wasn't a franchise QB available when they picked that the addition of TR can help their passing game directly and indirectly. Maybe they get their stud QB through Free Agency or next year's draft.

However, especially when you aren't commiting as much money to these guys, it shouldn't be an absolute on when/where to draft a RB.

Where did I say I'd draft Tannehill over Trent?

That is what the entire discussion is about. The whole argument is why did they draft a RB so high when the NFL is a QB's league? The answer is that they didn't have a QB to draft.

The discussion isn't about whether or not QB play wins in the NFL. Everybody knows that the NFL is dictacted by QB play so that's not much of an "argument" or astute point. Nobody is going to disagree with you.

Some people ITT are saying the league isn't a passing league. I disagreed, immediately met with downvotes, and you guys are twisting my words into me saying Trent was a bad pick.

I just don't see a single person that said the NFL was not a passing league or a RB dominated or really anything that resembles the point you are arguing.

The reason people misunderstood your post is that you had a straw man's argument.

If you read through the posts prior to mine and don't see anyone saying the NFL isn't really a passing league, then that's your prerogative.

Anyone read the article this morning by will grant? Just bashing the browns and them picking trent at # 3. Ive never heard of this guy, is he a barber or what?

He should be bashing the Browns for wasting their #22 overall pick on Brandon Weeden. Terrible selection!!!

Have to disagree. 22 overall was a little high for Weeden, but the Browns addressed a need and got the best player available at that position. I know everyone is bashing his age, but the guy has a freaking cannon. McCoy's biggest issue the past few years has been his arm strength.
