Cecil Hurt

  • I always liked Cecil too. I get the TNews at home, but still rarely read any of it. This is the problem with print media anymore. I know before they deliver my paper the general gist of things from the previous night. Further, coaches aren't going to give the media any juicy tidbits.

BTW, on Finebaum. He was a fantastic columnist. He had humor and didn't care which of you was underperforming, he gave the cold, hard truth (laced with tons of sarcasm) to the fanbase. His old Saturday morning paper picks of the day's games were always good. You don't have to love his Jerry Sringer-eque show, and you don't have to love him at all since he will throw us under the bus the minute we screw up, but Finebaum was a top rate columnist back in the day. Got me started reading the paper when I was about 11.

Finebaum was my first love when it comes to newspapers too. His columns would elicit emotion from me more than any other sports writer. Hurt would as well. But not as consistantly and FB.

I like Cecil and always have -- certainly have deep respect for his work, knowledge, experience and talent. Know him personally. I think all of his stuff is free on TideSports.

With that being said, it is going to be difficult for the media to do a great job covering Alabama basketball. Grant keeps it close to the vest and doesn't go deep with anyone.

At some point, he is going to have to be more of a promoter and advocate. Yes, its all about winning, but basketball is a little different than football at UA and in the SEC.

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
