Chance Warmack - 3 Star out of High School

  • He was Rated a 3-Star out of High School. Georgia which was his home state did not even offer him. Just goes to show you Devolpement is just as important as Talent. Good luck Chance in the NFL and make the Tide Nation Proud....

Georgia Tech did not off either and he is in their backyard. One of the best evaluations by Saban and staff in his tenure.

  • Agree with the comments on player development & staff evaluations, but historically OL is the toughest to project from high school to college. I would love to get some of the recruiting analysts from 247's comments on this.

Remember Ben Jones, 3* recruit out of Bibb Co. H.S., right down the road from TTown? We didn't offer--UGA did, and now he starts in the NFL. Everybody misses on recruits. Just glad we don't do it often.(like UGA).

IMO Dline is one of the toughest to evaluate. Guys can dominate on the high school level, but disappear once they get matched physically and athletically. Db's are also tough to find on film bc the good ones just do not get the ball thrown their way a lot. The camp circuit has really helped with their evaluations, but trying to cut up a good DB can be really frustrating sometimes bc they just do not get a lot of action on the field.

  • This article does a good job of explaining why stars matter. A 3* has a 1% chance of being a first rounder. For every star you add, your chances jump about 3.5x, up to a 5* having about a 14% chance. It's all about odds.

I was always confused on this one, pretty big miss. Also didn't pendry have a big role in offering/identifing warmak?

Yes. And he came to camp. Without camp Bama may never had offered either. It helps to see the guys in person.

  • Chance was an early commit and did not camp anywhere else. I do believe he was named the sleeper in his signing class and was never offered by other schools because he committed so early. I work in an AU based company and remember him being talked about extensively as the best prospect in our signing class. He also looked the part from day one, some kids just get it.

  • He was also a true guard. Not a lot of guards get the 4th star... Most dominant OL guys play tackle in HS no matter what their college position will be.
