Coach Sal

  • So the chances of Kirby Smart staying are getting slimmer and slimmer every year. Who thinks that if Kirby was to leave after this year or the next that Coach Sal would come back and be our Defensive coordinator? He would likely have one more year to be with his son and I think he would come back even if Vinnie was already gone.

    rsfields31

  • Not sure he'd come back as the DC. He's already a DC in the SEC.

Let's ask a better question, though. He's only 52. What about him replacing Saban one day? I'd be OK with that.

I think I would be okay with that too. Yes he is already a dc but who would'nt jump at the oppurtunity to be a dc for bama instead of ut.

    rsfields31

  • Yeah, I think he'd come back in a heartbeat. Leaving was a step up for him, but coming to be a DC under Saban is pretty much a head coaching job in the bag SOMEwhere down the line.

Probably bc at some point he's got to prove he can do it on his own without Saban. Saban's formula for winning and building a complete program is unmatched. He surrounds himself with hard workers and competent people. But the guy driving the truck is the real difference-maker for us.

  • I think Kirby heading to UT after DD is fired and Sal staying on a DC is more likely. You have Dave Hart in office and he would probably make a push for Smart. Just a guess.

That would be the best case scenario for Tennessee and the worst for Georgia

I know were on top right now and will be for as long as saban is at the capstone, but I wouldnt like it for us either.

I agree that Dave Hart would make a push for getting Smart, but I think their fans will be looking to get someone that is a proven head coach. Kind of like what we did after Shula was let go.

  • They will have to spend the money and get a big name proven coach. There tickets sales are way down and the football program is costing the university. I dont think that another young unproven coach will be a option.

I don't want to gamble on unproven head coaches anymore. We've been burned by that enough in the post Bryant era. Kirby is the only assistant that I would give a "maybe" to, and that's even a stretch.

I totally disagree with that statement. I would give Kirby the nod in a second. He has been with Saban long enough to know what it takes. Saban has complete confidence in him and that is saying an enormous amount. He would do great at Bama, but good thing is we have a head coach with a TON OF DRIVE in him. I don't think Saban is going anywhere anytime soon. Unless of course MM retires and Saban in about 5 years decides to become the AD and bring Kirby back as HC. There are not words for how happy that would make me.

    Not likely.

If Smart leaves, very strong chance that Saban will promote from within. Bank on it.

Not only no, but hell no on the notion of Sal as HC material at Bama. Surely we have learned from making stupid HC hires...no offense to Sal.

this is my nightmare scenario. i think its a given if Dooley gets canned that Hart will come for Kirby. thats why we should have NEVER let Hart go to a conference foe. Kirby and Sal together will hurt us badly in georgia !!!!
thats why just for this year im a huge UT fan !! i hope DD wins 9 games minimum this year. pray

  • Every year that passes with Kirby still here makes me think we're getting closer and closer to him taking over when Saban leaves.
