Coming and going: Running backs

BOL begins its position-by-position look at the Alabama depth chart at running back, as the Crimson Tide begins its transition from the 2011 BCS title to the 2012 season:

  • Man, I didn't realize it took so long to recover from turf toe.

    ASBamaguy

  • That's for full recovery, but yeah, it can take quite a while.

Jabrill Peppers...More I watch, the more I'm convinced he is the best player in the 2014 class. Barring injury, he will do special things.

  • That's interesting BD. I wonder what the downsides are to just going in with the knife & fixing it, b/c I like that recovery timetable a hell of a lot more!

This is why New Orleans went ahead and put Mark on the inactive list....get that surgery and get healed

  • Love this feature. Another reason why BOL is the very best. Thanks, Chris.

    Speedy recovery for #42.

Is this general healing/recovery time or is he planning surgery?

As a person that endured turf toe for 5.5 years before getting surgery and having known several other people that have suffered from the condition......if it has bothered him for as long as it has thus far unfortunately he will "likely" [not saying definitely] need surgery to fully recover.

I was running about 2.5-3 weeks after my surgery and back playing flag football at full speed at about the 5-6 week mark.

I'm hoping he has it too, but I bet the give him a go in spring and if it bothers him there, go ahead with the surgery...I'd think he"d be in good shape recovery-wise with 3+ months to recover.

Completely concur with this. I'm pumped about checking BOL daily to see what position we are discussing next. This series was a great idea; exactly the kind of thing to get us through the offseason, especially with so little recruiting drama this year.

  • Ya turf toe can be really debilitating. It has ended the careers of many NFL players, the fridge and Deion sanders being the most famous, or infamous maybe more appropriately. Now out understanding of management and surgery has come a long way so I don't mean to imply that could be a possibility for Eddie. Also, not each case is the same, as with any ligamentous/capsular injury, there are grades of severity and the management varies dramatically for each, and I doubt anyone on here has the insight into eddie's medical info to know where he stands relative to that aspect. Irregardless, I'm sure he's getting the best care possible and hopefully he'll be back to full strength ASAP...

  • Chris,

The last two days the staff articles are not "hot" on the mobile site, well at least not for me on my iPhone.

    Anyone else having this problem?

    BamaBowtie

  • It wasn't in the rotation for a while but it should be now.

I have had a very, very mild case of turf toe for at least the last five years. If I run without shoes, I feel it. I couldn't imagine what a severe case would be like.

  • All anybody needs to know about how painful turf toe is is that it made Jack Lambert retire. This guy played football on gravel.

    tmoore19

  • great artical as always thanks ....

assuming everyone is healthy imo 2012 will be
    1.Lacy
    2.Fowler
    3 Hart & Yeldon

Drake is likely best suited as a saftey or wr & Calloway at SLB.

Turf toe also seriously affected Deon Sanders as well. RTR.

  • Looking forward to seeing what DEE HART can do. Just a reminder that he was the MVP of the All-American Bowl with 100 plus yards of rushing - "The Pete Dawkins Game MVP was East running back Demetrius Hart, racking up 101 yards on eight carries." Also looking forward to TJ and what he can do. We already know we are in good hands with circle button and Fowler. Feels good to have the backfield that we will have next year with that CRAZY O-LINE. RTR

Dee Hart on winning MVP and being first 100+ yard rusher in Bowl history: “It’s an honor and I am just humbled by it. The other guys upfront just went out and did their job which helped me get my yardage. I couldn’t have done it without them. To be the first 100-yard rusher in Bowl history is great and, again, I’m just humbled when you think of the players like Adrian Petersen that have played in this game. It’s been an amazing week and this is a great, great way to end it.”

Dee Hart on the team’s morale while being down 10-0: “It’s hard when you don’t know all the guys or their emotions or how they react in these situations. But everyone was just trying to pump each other up…just getting everyone to give it their best, their all. And that’s what happened. (Teddy) Bridgewater handled his business and got us back in the lead. And our defense just kept us in the game by dominating the offensive line. All around true team effort.”

Hart helps East beat West in All-American Bowl - All American Bowl- NBC Sports

The East squad defeated the West, 13 -10, in front of a record-breaking crowd of 37,893 at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. The Pete Dawkins Game MVP was East running back Demetrius Hart, who racked up 101 yards on eight carries.

  • Can anyone remember when CNS got there and when a running back got hurt and we had basically no one to play? Oh, how things have changed.

  • I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see Alabama's backfield called a "three-headed monster" next season, especially with four guys returning on the offensive line.
