  • So your dad plays the race card and you have a bad attitude behind the scenes, but you get rewarded with this. I guess I'm in the minority but I won't be rooting for the kid. Dad caused a lot issues behind scenes

  • glad for the kid but why doesn't he have to sit out a year?

  • I have no issues with Sims transferring or with any other player transferring. I take issue with the NCAA arbitrarily ruling one way or the other. Either allow all transfers to play immediately or do not. Follow the rule not to the letter or do not have the rule in the first place. It is unethical otherwise.

There are as many cases of "good guys" transferring and playing as there are "good guys" transferring and not being able to play.

There isn't a black and white rule. So why would you ask them to make rulings so cut and dry.

The rule allows for transfers when there is a legitimate hardship.

You are basing all of your opinion on no information.

Do you have info on why he was allowed to play right away? I'm happy for him, but he transferred home only because he didn't earn a starting spot - or am I mistaken.

Seems like there have been plenty of players transfer for essentially the same thing, and more times than not they have to sit. So what's different this time? If I missed something on family issues/etc then my bad, but on the surface this seems a little strange compared to how I always thought the D1 to D1 transfer rule worked.

Clearly you are mistaken. Since you know everything and it is leading you to a different conclusion than what this committee came to you must either be mistaken or you have to accept that you don't have all of the information.

If there is a "hardship", let the player play. Or let none play regardless of hardship.
If the team allows a clean release of a player, the NCAA should follow suit and let him play.
It isn't that difficult to understand.

Kyle Prater's case is not dissimilar from Sims', yet Sims is allowed to play and the NCAA has yet to rule on Prater.

Chap, 99% of your posts I agree with, but this one has me puzzled.
What opinion of mine am I basing on no information?

  • When his transfer was announced, part of the statement was that there were family issues to deal with at home. Despite that, most assumed he left only because he couldn't beat out AJ. This NCAA ruling makes it seem that there really were some legitimate issues - hardship - involved.

I do wish him well. He has spoken well of his time at Bama and has done nothing I am aware of to discredit the program. Good luck to him.

I have no idea why they allowed it. I am surprised by it. I also agree the NCAA is very inconsistent.

With that said dyer has been a thug at auburn. Sims has been very upstanding at bama. I imagine that character plays a part in whether or not this committee believes your excuse.

They had no reason to believe dyer and I doubt anyone at auburn was complimentary of him.

Sims on the other hand probably had the full support of bama which gave his excuse credibility.

That's why I say character counts. Character of the player and the programs involved.

I don't know his hardship but if they bought it then it must be more than just him being homesick.
