It wouldn't surprise me the way this is going.
First off, the SEC standings:
TEAM CONF OVERALL
Florida 10-1 20-3
Kentucky 8-3 17-7
Alabama 8-3 16-8
Ole Miss 7-3 18-5
Missouri 6-4 17-6
Georgia 6-5 12-12
Arkansas 5-5 14-9
LSU 4-6 13-8
Texas A&M 4-6 14-9
Tennessee 4-6 12-10
Vanderbilt 3-7 9-13
Auburn 3-7 9-14
South Carolina 2-8 12-11
Mississippi State 2-8 7-15
Ole Miss 48
Ole Miss has lost three of its last four
Missouri has lost two of its last four
I don't think there's any way the SEC takes less than three teams.
Alabama at Ole MIss is March 5.

My first thought is - Man the SEC is really bad at basketball this year!
2nd thought is DAMN that loss to AU really could crush us.
3rd thought - yes - we win out and beat them, it should solidify us in the SEC. A good showing for the tourney would be HUGE too.
That's the only way Grant doesn't start next season on the hot seat.
I love our defense, but looking like a JV squad on offense is getting old.
I don't believe in that logic anymore after we beat Georgia twice in less than a week and they still got in over us.
Oh and Chris, were you ever able to find out about Chris Hines role on the team?

agree with this
stupid mercer and tulane losses, along with auburn, are just killing us
a year where we have really struggled would look pretty damn good on paper right now if we could wipe away those 3 losses and count them as wins...

Although the losses to Mercer and Tulane were HORRIBLE, They were early and Steele was out. I puke over the Ucheat and Barn games though....those two were back breakers for our NCAA chances. If we make it in, we crawl in.
If we win out between now and then, it absolutely could be a play-in type game.
We'd be at 20 wins, virtually guaranteed a top 4 finish in the league and likely be positioned as the #2 seed in the conference.
I'd assume our RPI would be somewhere in the upper 40s/low 50s at that point if we win out until then, and Ole Miss would be around that range as well.
Would be a huge game for us.
I'm in no way on the fire grant bandwagon. I just don't see a way we make it in. As bad as basketball is right now we are still not a tournament caliber team and will probably lose 3 more I would guess. Hope im wrong
Looking at those records, I just can't believe we lost to freaking Auburn. That just sucks.
I think it could be sort of a play in game and I don't like our chances....winning at OleMiss will be very tough. Still, gotta take care of the scar's and barn's before we can even worry about it. We're capable of beating OM just like we're capable of losing to the worst teams in the league.
I think the conference tourneys rarely helps teams unless a bubble team wins their conference tourney. It seems to be rare that the selection committee rewards a bubble team with a tourney bid based on a deep conference tourney run unless a bubble team has to go through multiple highly seeded tourney teams in their conference tourney. The only highly seeded team the SEC has this year is Florida. We just don't have enough really good teams in the SEC this year to grab the selection committee's eye by making a deep SEC tourny run.
Our crappy Dec and the Auburn loss is what is going to keep us out of the Dance unless we win the SEC tourney. Our best hope is for in the SEC Tourney Mizzo gets upset and Florida decideds to not show up and start getting ready for the NCAA early.
Even then to be honest, with our lack of offense I just don't think we have the firepower to win the SEC tourney. Having to work ourselves to death playing extreme defense to make up for our lack of offense with our shallow bench. Well sometimes miracles happen, but it is a long shot at best.
Im kind of with you. I mean YES the Ole Miss looks like a huge showdown but the game at LSU first is make or break (assuming an obvious loss at UF). LSU just nearly beat us at home. We could also lose to UGA at home and yea I know we just won in Athens. This team has no margin for error as bad as they are offensively.
