We're going to try something a little different, which if you all like will replace and include the daily practice reports. When we have access and cover practice the briefing will be posted as a story, otherwise it'll be here on the message board.
One thing that some of you will especially note is the daily trivia question. Some will be easy and others will be extremely difficult. The first person to post the correct answer in full will get credit and I'll keep a running scoreboard.
Let me know what you think ... here comes the debut:
Christopher Walsh covers Alabama football for BamaOnline, 247Sports, and is the author of 18 books.
Next game: Alabama at Missouri, Oct. 13, 2:30 p.m. (CBS).
Other sports: Women’s basketball will hold its first practice Tuesday morning;
Men’s basketball begins practices Oct. 12.
Women’s soccer visits Texas A&M on Friday, visits Arkansas on Sunday;
Volleyball hosts Missouri on Sunday, 1:30 p.m.;
Women’s golf plays in the Fall Preview at Georgia on Friday-Sunday;
Swimming and diving hosts Delta State on Saturday, 1 p.m.;
Men’s tennis is playing all week in Tulsa;
Women’s tennis is playing all week in Los Angeles beginning Tuesday.
Injury update: Alabama announced that junior wide receiver DeAndrew White and redshirt freshman running back Dee Hart will have season-ending knee surgeries. Junior cornerback Deion Belue (shoulder) could be out 1-2 weeks.
Stat of the day: Dating back to the start of the 2009 season, Alabama starting quarterbacks have had 14 passes intercepted. During that same time period the Crimson Tide defense has picked off 68 passes.
Quote of the day: “People get satisfied to easily. When we lost to LSU last year, that was a big motivating factor to finish the season and probably a big motivating factor in winning the next game that we played. We don’t have that right now.” – Nick Saban
Trivia question of the day:Which Alabama freshman season record is Amari Cooper already on the verge of breaking, and who currently holds it?
touchdowns- Julio Jones
True Freshmen TD receptions-- Julio with 4
Damn! I was about to say it!
Receptions and Julio?
Ok, that one was too easy.
Julio Jones holds the Alabama freshman records for receptions (58), receiving yards (924) and receiving touchdowns (four). Amari Cooper already has three touchdowns.
FYI, I think he set the Alabama record for receptions in a game by a freshman the other night with eight, but haven't been able to prove it yet. I've asked the school for conformation.
So anyway, let me know if you all like the idea.
I'm going to add weather forecast for games and the daily practice report.
It'll be posted in some form Monday-Friday, and the times will vary so no one has an edge.
I like the idea.
Question: So this will be in place of the Practice Reports? I think as long as you can include any tidbits from practice it's all good.
Yes. In place of practice reports, but include information from practice.
That Saban quote about motivation kinda scares me actually.
New Member of The 247 Crew!
I like it a lot. Especially with our other sports firing up again, this will be a one stop thread for all games info.
I do like this idea and am a fan of the trivia question.
You are going to need to find a way to stop people from Googling the answer.
In what way?
I like the idea, one thing to consider would be to push a text alert out for the trivia question if you're gonna keep score (for the uber competitive among us).
That he might be seeing some let up at times. Due to that fact.
If I do a good job asking the questions people won't be able to google the answers have the time.
(At least that's what I'm going with).
As of now, no on the text alerts. I think we want to save those for special things like commitments, etc.
I was worried about that too coming into this season. I hope Barrett or AJ can provide the leadership we need to make sure a repeat of 2010 does not happen again
"You don't always get what you want, but you always get what you deserve"
"Character" is doing the right thing when nobody is looking.
This is just another use of the media by Saban to stay ahead of the curve there...it's always possible. This is a preventive measure, not a reactive one. If it reaches the intended audience it has served it's purpose.
