I think I would be kind to say that the student section is half-full.
Landon Collins with the great special teams tackle at the 18
Saban: On Alabama’s performance in the first half:
“"We haven't really stopped them all the time. We are going to have to cover better in the second half. They've really got some skilled guys. Tyler Russell is a good player. We need to keep the ball on offense. We started out with good time of possession in the first quarter but went three and out a couple of times there in a row. We have to possess the ball even if we don't score."”
GAME CAPTAINS: Alabama’s captains for the Mississippi state game were defensive lineman Quinton Dial, tight end Michael Williams and quarterback AJ McCarron. Mississippi State won the opening coin toss and deferred a decision to the second half, so Alabama chose to receive the opening kickoff.
TIDE 56-3 UNDER SABAN WHEN LEADING AT THE HALF: Alabama leads Mississippi State, 24-0, at halftime. The Crimson Tide is 56-3 when leading at halftime under head coach Nick Saban since the start of the 2007 season.
FIRST HALF SCORING: Alabama has helped its own cause over the last few seasons by not trailing while entering the locker room at the half. The Tide has either held a lead or been tied entering the intermission in 28 straight games. Over that span UA has outscored the opposition, 564-114 in the first half. The last time the Tide trailed at the half was at South Carolina on October 9, 2010, an eventual 35-21 loss.
20 OR MORE IN THE FIRST HALF: With 24 points in the opening half tonight against Mississippi State, Alabama has scored 20 or more points in every first half this season.
FIRST QUARTER POINTS: With T.J. Yeldon's 11-yard run to start the scoring and a 57-yard pass by AJ McCarron to Kenny Bell in the first quarter, Alabama has scored in every first quarter this season, outscoring its opponents 104-3 in the opening quarter this season.
SCORING STREAK CONTINUES: With T.J. Yeldon's 11-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, Alabama raised its current total of consecutive games in which it scored to 150 – the longest streak in program history.
McCARRON PASSES WITHOUT AN INTERCEPTION: AJ McCarron continues to build his school record of passes without an interception. After passing Brodie Croyle’s record of 190, McCarron enters the second half of tonight’s game with an active streak of 258 passing attempts without an interception.
McCARRON MOVING UP ON CAREER TD PASSES LIST: With two touchdown passes thus far tonight, AJ McCarron has 37 career touchdown passes. That total ranks 4th in Alabama history behind John Parker Wilson (47 - 2005-08), Brodie Croyle (41 - 2002-05) and Greg McElroy (39 - 2007-10).
McCARRON ON SINGLE-SEASON TD PASSES LIST: McCarron's 18 touchdown passes this season ranks tied for second on the Alabama single-season passing touchdowns list with John Parker Wilson, who also threw for 18 touchdowns in 2007. Greg McElroy holds the single-season passing touchdowns mark with 20, set in 2010.
