• Villanova rallied from a 75-69 deficit with 51 seconds remaining, scoring six straight points at the free throw line, to force overtime on Thursday night against Purdue. The Wildcats then outscored the Boilermakers 14-6 in the extra session en route to an 89-81 win.
• For the second time in as many games, sophomore guard Darrun Hilliard established a new career high. After notching 15 points in the win Sunday over Marshall, Hilliard was even better on Thursday night against Purdue. The native of Bethlehem, Pa., connected on 7-of-10 from the field to give him 22 points in 34 minutes of activity.
• In a tight, physical game free throw shooting was critical to Villanova. The Wildcats were 33-of-41 (.805) at the line while Purdue sank just 16-of-28 from the charity stripe.
• Freshman forward Daniel Ochefu gave VU a huge lift, contributing seven points and eight rebounds in 26 minutes of action.

OFF THE BENCH

Sophomore guard Ty Johnson (Plainfield, N.J./Montrose Christian School) informed the Villanova coaching staff during the first week of November that he intends to transfer.
Johnson came to Villanova in 2011 and spent one season in a Wildcats’ uniform. He appeared in all 32 games in 2011-12 and earned nine starting assignments. The 6-3 guard averaged 3.3 points, 1.0 rebounds, and 17.7 minutes per outing. He was second on the squad in assists with 65 – an average of 2.0 apg.
“We’re going to miss Ty,” stated Villanova head coach Jay Wright. “He has handled this with class. We all respect his work ethic, athletic ability and commitment to this program. We want what’s best for Ty.”
Johnson plans to work out with the coaching staff while he completes the fall academic semester at Villanova.
That 70’s Show
When it comes to Villanova, the number 70 has held meaning in recent seasons.
When the Wildcats held opponents to 69 points or less during the 2011-12 season, they were 8-3 (.727).They were just 5- 16 (.238) when their opponents notched 70 or more points in a game.
Villanova moved to 3-0 in 2012-13 when scoring more than 70 points with victories over UDC (78-58), Marshall (80-68) and Purdue (89-81) in the 2K Sports Classic.
Villanova owns a string of 124 consecutive regular season sellouts in the 6,500 seat facility, dating to 2000-2001. The
South end zone includes the entire VU student section, through which the team descends prior to tipoff.
Villanova has a lifetime record of 239-57 (.807) in the building on Ithan Avenue. Since the 1994-95 season, the Wildcats are 178-25 (.877) in the Pavilion.
