Shouldn't be a suspension. I could see it if the ball was way past the receiver but it wasn't.
Just hard football the way it should be played. If he played for me I'd be proud of him.
Good clean hit that deserved no punishment. I'm all for protecting the players with the helmet to helmet rules. But it's starting to venture into turning it into pansy football territory.
Exactly. No way this deserves punishment/suspension..Just go ahead and let them play damn flag football and wear pink dresses.
From a football perspective that looked like Cover 2 basic zone defense. If you run deep posts in a zone, or run across a zone defense.... that is the result, goodnight! QB didn't help him with the throw, either. Sit in zone, run away from man to man. There has been alot of changes since I played, but this simple rule remains the same. NOT SUPENSION WORTHY! IMHO.

that's football. don't think he should've been suspended
Good move was in reference to suspending players. This play was what it was. However the conference has let a lot of dangerous stuff go over the past few years and I'm happy to see they'd gotten proactive.
My only hope is that this wasn't due to the sec team playing an ooc team.
Proactive? The guy lead with his shoulder and made initial contact in the other players chest. What else is he supposed to do for a clean hit IYO?
I'm not sure how to respond to this.
You have an opinion on the play that was punished and I have one.
My post wasn't about that play. I am discussing the sec suspending players for aggregious hits.
I just wanted to know what you thought he could do different that would not draw a suspension.
For starters he should not leave his feet. No need jump in that situation. Every action he took on that play was to do his best to hit the receiver, who was defenseless, high.
A better play would have been to try and hit the receiver in the body, where the ball was headed, instead of aiming at the head.
I completely disagree about that being a clean hit. The only thing that makes it debatable is the receiver avoids the helmet to helmet contact. Otherwise that is 2 knocked out players being carted off the field.
I also think Elston lowered his helmet. If a guy lowers the helmet he should be suspended.
I don't ask that you agree with my opinion on the play. I see that it is debatable cause the worst case scenario was luckily avoided.
I think a better topic is this use of power by the sec. What the power is used on will always be a judgment call so the question is should they have the power to begin with.

1) Let him catch it!
2) Catch him, and let him fall on top of you!
3) Pretend like you were going to hit him, AND MISS!
Dripping with sarcasm, of course.
It's grainy so it looks like he laid the hit to jar loose the ball and didn't hit him in the head. Bad move by SEC if TE indeed didn't lead with helmet nor hit the head of the receiver.
I can definitely agree with this part. One person should not be allowed to make this decision.
Damn straight. I have irreparable nerve damage in my neck and spine, severe neuropathy in my hands at night, and two bad shoulders, and I do not blame the game of football. If you love the game, then you love contact. It's the price you pay.....
Jeremiah Castille, 1982 LIberty Bowl .
Ronnie Lott would have missed every other game if he played today.
However, that is where the game is. A lot of things that used to happen shouldn't happen anymore.
A compilation of the Ronnie Lott Highlights. The 49er great and one of the greatest defensive back ever. Sorry for the quality. But Pinnacle just wouldn't cooperate. After rendering more then 30 times i kept getting errors or shaking. this was one of the better ones. I grew tired, had to delete all the temp files to free up space. Just stopped trying to make it better.
TE's hit appears to be aimed at the receiver's helmet. It was completely unnecessary and dangerous to both players. I say a suspension is appropriate, here.
Stupid horrible dumb no no just no
