As pissed as I am right now, the NIT would be great for this team if we don't flame out early. (Not great compared to the real tournament, but great compared to sitting at home on our azz eating potato chips.)
Everyone on this team but Steele will return. Play until they won't let you play anymore. Lord knows Jacobs needs as much game action as he can get.
We aren't a young team? Outside of Rele and Steele, we have a team full of sophmores and freshmen.
Roll Tide dude, love the attitude...
That said my one gripe (well after the officiating and Releford's decision to pull the back out when we had 3-1 w/ 1 minute left) is why we didn't play Retin or Pollard at all in OT. I get it, sort of in the 1st OT, but we were sucking wind and gave up some easy uncontested shots in the next two OTs due to being tired and completely out of position. I think those two guys could have given 1+ minute in each of the last two OT's which would have allowed one of Cooper or Jacobs to sit.

Experience always helps. Anytime you get an opportunity to play different competition in a post season setting, you have to take advantage of it. Quite frankly, this team isn't good enough to turn down opportunities to play and improve.
That's a solid point. Our guys were absolutely gassed at the end of that game. I do believe that some fresh legs, even for a two-minute stretch, could've made a difference.
It's late February in their 2nd year. Difficult to consider this team young anymore.
I've already stated I think we would probably get to play more games in the NIT, and as distasteful as it is to end up in the NIT when your team could have executed sufficiently to get to the tourney, we will most certainly benefit from playing the additional games.
NIT bid should be accepted without question if that's the result.
So 3 extra games of 55 points per game will help?
The team doesn't need more experience. It needs better assistant coaching from the development side.
I'm out of upvotes.
Do you not agree the run through the NIT two years ago helped some of our younger players? We were able to play halfway decent teams like Miami, Wichita, Colorado, etc. The home games were fun.
I'm not saying playing in the NIT is going to make us the '96 Bulls, but you know Grant isn't making any bold moves on his staff, so what's the alternative? Just turning them loose to go jack around a month early? Jacobs has already said he didn't work hard during the offseason last year.
At least it's a diversion. And I'll say this - we'd have a hell of a lot better chance to make a run through the NIT than the NCAA tournament. We are almost assuredly a one-and-done in the NCAAs should we crap out the world's largest golden horse shoe and make it. Does going to the big dance and getting skulldragged there in one game make any difference?
Oh.... I won't....RTR 'til the death of me
