Those of you who watched the weight room tour video may remember Scott Cochran saying something about how he's really big into strengthening neck muscles.
According to recent study, neck strength predicts concussion risk -- which had always been believed, but this helps explain it all:
For years, biomechanics researchers have suspected that girls had higher concussion rates than boys in sports like soccer and lacrosse because of gender differences in neck strength. The weaker your neck, the more likely your head will bob around on impact.
Christopher Walsh covers Alabama football for BamaOnline, 247Sports, and is the author of 18 books.
remember when i was in high school they took us off the neck machines, saying it caused too many injuries or it was bad on our bones or something
So what you're saying is this Cochran guy knows what he's doing? (g)
My high school did/said the same things ... we had 2 neck work out rigs that basically collected dust all yr round unless some kid fakin an injury decided to sit down on it and jack around.
That is why they took them away - kids used them to blow off doing something productive.
Much better way to strengthen neck muscles that those machines which you never see anymore.

Speaking of the new weight room video.....Do we know yet what the dumbbells look like? Style? What makes them the best?
If I missed it sorry. Looking for pics and any info. TIA TIA
So Takeo Spikes never had a concussion?
Pray for Tuscaloosa and Roll Tide!
I'll see your Takeo Spikes and raise you a Roman Harper.

. . . so thick necks and skinny ankles right???
The price of victory is high, but so are the rewards.
Lay flat on a bench, bed, or anything that you can hang your head over.
1 - do this facing up: tilt your head down as far as it will go, now try to touch your chin to your chest. Do 50 of these on a 4-count (1, 2, 3 - 1, 1, 2, 3 - 2... 1,2,3-50).
2 - same position, but try to touch your ear to your shoulder (move your head/neck, not your shoulder). Again, do 50 4-count
3 - fllip over (stomach down) and do the side to side one. The up down from this position is pretty easy.
YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH!
I missed the weight room tour video but would like to see it. Is it still available on the site?
Those neck machines really were dangerous if you didn't do it exactly right. Wasn't worth the risk.
A guy on my football team got in a bad car wreck in high school, and the doctors said his neck strength probably saved his life. He's been wheelchair bound since but still alive because of those machines and those workouts (in my opinion and the doctors).
Desmond Bryant wants in on this competition
Big necks, tiny ankles...
To be a good football player, you apparently have to look very awkward.
Uh, OK. That's a photo. Almost too many places to go with that one
have heard plenty of these stories too
They fed us salt tablets and said eat your bacon and eggs every morning. "THEY" will mess you up!
