2009 Season

  • FortWorthTide

I was in an argument on TBB with a Miami fan that caused me to go back and look at our 2009 season. It had been so long since I'd thought about it that it was easy to forget how impressive it truly was. The last two years were special, but the 2009 team accomplished so much more when you really look at the schedules. That was an incredible team and an unparalleled year. When you look at that season vs. 2001 Miami (who many consider the greatest team ever), it's even more amazing.

    2009 Alabama

Virginia Tech (10-3 Chick-fil-a Bowl Champs)
    Florida International (3-9)
    North Texas (2-10)
    Arkansas (8-5 Liberty Bowl Champs)
Kentucky (7-6, lost Music City Bowl)
    Mississippi (9-4 Cotton Bowl Champs)
South Carolina (7-6, lost Papa Johns Bowl)
    Tennessee (7-6, lost Chick-fil-a Bowl)
LSU (9-4, lost Capital One Bowl - infamous horrible field game vs. Penn State)
    Miss. St. (5-7)
    Tennessee Chattanooga (6-5)
    Auburn (8-5 Outback Bowl Champs)
Florida (13-1 Sugar Bowl Champs and SEC East Champs)
    Texas (13-1 Big 12 Champs)

    Rated as Sagarin's toughest schedule.
    Defeated 10 bowl teams
    Defeated 5 bowl winners
    Opponents win % = 60% (107/179)

    2001 Miami

    Penn State (5-6)
    Rutgers (2-9)
    Pittsburgh (7-5 Tangerine Bowl Champs)
    Troy State (7-4)
Florida State (8-4 Gator Bowl Champs)
    WVU (3-8)
    Temple (4-7)
Boston College (8-4 Music City Bowl Champs)
    Syracuse (10-3 Insight Bowl Champs)
    Washington (8-4, lost Holiday Bowl)
Virginia Tech (8-4, lost Gator Bowl)
    Nebraska (11-2 Big 12 North Co-Champs)
