I think there is a little room for worry, but not much. I think the Cliff's Notes on this season would be as follows:
Offense: We had trouble at times with teams who could bring pressure off the edge; we never really hit a groove on offense (tons of yards but couldn't get in the endzone); and turned the ball over, not a lot, but rather at the worst times.
Defense: I don't think anyone would disagree that the HUNH killed our season (2-2 v. teams that try to speed the pace); I don't know the stats but it seemed like we could never get off the field on 3rd down, whether it was 3rd and 8 or 3rd and 18; at Corner it seemed like we had no clue, we played pretty much everyone on the roster at that position and were never able to make it work.
2014 - I think teams will load-up to stop the run and then live with whatever our QB does. Easier said than done.
v. West Va. (Atlanta): We start with a team that likes to go at hyper speed and throw the ball everywhere. We'll see if our secondary has learned anything. I think we'll be much improved, but if we're not its going to be an interesting game/season. I don't think they have the personnel to stop us from running the ball. Prediction ALABAMA 31 - WEST VA. 17
v. Florida Atlantic: The Owls are over matched. Prediction ALABAMA 42 - FLA. ATLANTIC 0
v. Southern Miss.: See above. Prediction ALABAMA 49 - SO. MISS. 10
v. Florida: I didn't like the hire at OC for Florida and think they'll continue to struggle, but the defense should be pretty good. Muschamp probably coaching for his life here, a loss likely sends the Gators in a tail spin. Prediction ALABAMA 24 - FLORIDA 13
at Ole Miss: Another team that likes to pace the game. The defense will likely give us problems, and their receivers will be the biggest test for our secondary. I could see this one going either way. Prediction, either at 29 - 24 win or a 29 - 24 loss.
at Arkansas: No HUNH, no problem. Prediction ALABAMA 36 - ARKANSAS 13
Texas A&M: The Ags will be in transition, but will still be able to put up points. Keep in mind that even without Evans they have big, fast, talented receivers. Prediction ALABAMA 28 - TEXAS A&M 24
at Tennessee: The Vols are still lost in the woods. Prediction ALABAMA 34 - TENNESSEE 13
at LSU: I think that LSU will be our twin in 2014, good defense (but making a lot of changes due to NFL departures) and tons of questions on offense. Still tough to win in Baton Rouge. Prediction ALABAMA 24 - LSU 21 (OT)
at Miss. State: The Dak Prescott show should be out of gas or in the shop by this point in the season, not that they would have much success anyway, but the defense should be pretty tough. Prediction ALABAMA 23 - MISS ST. 10
Western Carolina: Prediction, whatever we want it to be.
Auburn: I hate to admit it, but I think their defensive line will be able to stop our run pretty successfully and we won't have the QB to put up enough points to win this one. Prediction AUBURN 31 - ALABAMA 24
VERDICT: 11-1 or 10-2 with a chance to go 9-3 if we lose at LSU.
MSU is at home.
On Alabama: CeCe Jefferson - "It was a bunch of beautiful women..." Reggie Ragland - "oh the females of course..."
